On average this procedure takes 4 to 7 hours depending on how much work needs to be accomplished.

Aside from anaesthesia, sedatives may also be given. To secure the airways in breathing during body repositioning, a breathing tube will be placed in the mouth of the patient. Continuous monitoring of the heart, blood pressure, pulse and the amount of oxygen circulating in blood of a patient are regularly checked.

Just like other surgical procedures, anaesthesia is applied before making an incision. The incision will start across the lower abdomen and is extended around the waist to the mid back right below the spine or upper pelvic region. Generally, the incisions are placed in the most unnoticeable positions that will allow you to wear a bathing suit confidently without showing a trace of the incision.

After the incision, the skin and fat underneath the muscles of the abdominal wall will be lifted. If necessary, the muscles are tightened using sutures. After tightening the muscles, excess skin and fat will be removed and the skin that is left hanging below the muscle will be redraped.

After the surgical procedure, the fluid that may accumulate within the incision must be drained, therefore, surgical drains will be placed underneath the incisions. The incisions will then be closed. For faster healing, a dressing may be applied before binding the incision. However, expect the scar to fade out over time.

Recovery from a Lower Body Lift

Antibiotics are a must. To ease the discomfort due to pain, pain reliever will be prescribed by your doctor. Do not drive within 24 hours after taking a pain reliever which may affect your reflexes. You will also need to restrain from your regular activities for around 6-8 weeks or as advised (may even be more). You will be advised to wear an abdominal binder following the surgery for a safe and faster healing, and to prevent bruising and swelling – your surgeon will advise and consult with you over this time. Do not remove the abdominal binder until advised by your surgeon. Note: These recovery instructions are simply an example. If undergoing a lower body lift always follow the steps directed by your surgeon.
