Plastic Surgery Hub had the pleasure of attending the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Non-Surgical Symposium 2013 held in Sydney during August this year.

We had the opportunity to sit in on a number of thought provoking sessions that welcomed some of the worlds best in non-surgical rejuvenation. Attending the conference was an array of plastic surgeons, dermatologists, cosmetic doctors, nurse aesthetics and clinicians.

This annual event is one of the most prestigious in the industry, with 20% of its revenue invested each year to discovering and developing new products and innovative technologies in the realm of plastic and cosmetic surgery.

Here’s some profiles on what we got the chance to take a peek at and a little bit about who and where some of the industries best come from. These keynote speakers that we mention may be well worth your consideration as these guys and girls are at the very top of their field.

Dr. Herve Raspaldo – is a specialist in aesthetic surgery and face and neck rejuvenation procedures. Dr Raspaldo is a key leader and worldwide expert in facial beautification and rejuvenation. Among many other things he is the creator of FACECULPTURE a new concept of modern facial beautification with injectibles and the co-creator of REVELATION 3D which is the concept of 3D facial analysis before surgery and injection. Dr Raspaldo had us glued to our seats discussing the ‘Anatomy of Ageing’ and described his “grading scale” with rejuvenation.

Dr. Steven Liew – One of Australia’s leading plastic surgeons and a global innovator in the development of new non-surgical facial techniques. His work has advanced the use of botulinum toxin (ie Botox / Dysport) and fillers into the realm of total face transformation. His talk was definitely our favourite. He introduced us to the concept of a “designer face based on the LIFT” (Liew International Face Template). So it’s not just about removing wrinkles and increasing volume, it’s a combination of choosing the right botulinum toxin and filler, combined with the right plane and the correct volume. By the time Dr Liew had finished presenting, we just wanted to stand up and clap. A true master of his craft!

Dr. Greg Goodman – Has been a dermatologist for over 20 years and really knows his stuff! His areas of speciality include skin cancer, cosmetic dermatology, lasers in dermatology, the treatment of acne and acne scarring and much much more. During Dr. Goodman’s talk he presented on the common standard of beauty and the importance of facial shape. He left us with a quote that had us thinking about the future direction for facial rejuvenation – “The chin is the new paradigm”.

Dr. Woffles Wu – With a name such as this we are sure you will not forget him quickly, and if you have any interest in the art of plastic surgery we are sure you will definitely not forget him easily. Dr. Wu is from Singapore and was the first to pioneer the Stealth Incision Technique for breast augmentation in 1996. Dr. Wu is all about “beautification rather than rejuvenation” Which ended up being our favourite quote for the entire event!

Dr. Zoe Draelos – A practicing board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology with a research interest in cosmetics, toiletries and biologically active skin medications. She has contributed to 32 text books, served as the investigator on 274 studies, written 270 published papers, serves on 8 journal editorial boards and is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology plus much much more. Dr Draelos covered many topics throughout the symposium including the latest in cosmetic dermatology and cosmeceuticals including cellulite creams, glycon creams and stem cell creams.

Dr. Sabine Zenker –is an internationally renowned dermatologist and founder and owner of the dermatology surgery clinic in Munich, Germany. Dr Zenker also covered many topics including emerging technologies.

On an overall summary of the event the International guest speakers included Dr Henry Chan from Hong Kong, Dr Zoe Draelos from North Carolina, Dr Wilson Ho from Hong Kong, Dr Michael Kane from New York City, Dr Herve Raspaldo from France, Dr Woffles Wu from Singapore, & Dr Sabine Zenker from Germany.

From our own shores we heard from Dermatologist, Assoc. Professor Greg Goodman, Plastic Surgeons Dr Steven Liew and Dr Terrence Scamp and Cosmetic Physician Dr Stefania Roberts.

We were also tantalized by Industry Presentations covering the latest and greatest non-surgical procedures for acne, PRP (platelet rich plasma), skin tightening, rosacea, fat reduction, laser-assisted facial contouring, microneedling, body contouring, skin tightening, fat grafts, and non-ablative laser.

If you would like to know any further information on any of the other speakers at the ASAPS Non-Surgical Symposium or any further event information do not hesitate to contact us.
