We’re excited to announce that North Coast Medispa, located on the Far North Coast of NSW with clinics in Ballina, Lismore and Yamba, are adding Belkyra to their treatment menu and are taking bookings now!

In case you hadn’t been paying attention, Belkyra is a cosmetic injectable treatment specifically for destroying fat under the chin without the need for surgery.

The treatment has been used in America, Canada, the UK and Europe (under brand name Kybella) for some time but was only recently approved for use in Australia, making North Coast Medispa one of the pioneering clinics in Australia to offer it.

How does Belkyra work?

Belkyra is a prescription medication administered by injection in a similar manner to Botox.

The active ingredient in the product is deoxycholic acid, which actually occurs naturally in the human body to aid in the breakdown of dietary fat. When injected into the targeted area, it begins destroying the fat cell membranes to allow your body to metabolise and releases the fat naturally out of the body.

Each treatment takes around 20 minutes and involves multiple small injections under your chin. The exact number of injections and treatment will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.

The effects of Belkyra are permanent.

Kerry Lynch

Kerry Lynch

Kerry Lynch, founder of North Coast Medispa and an expert cosmetic injector, tells us that the treatment is best suited to adults who are in general good health but still struggle with slimming down the fullness under their chin despite diet and exercise.

“For many people, the double chin is simply the result of genetics or hormones, so dieting and exercise just don’t work,” Kerry explains.

How much does Belkyra cost?

North Coast Medispa offer your initial treatment which includes two sessions spaced between 4 – 6 weeks apart for $2,400. Further treatment sessions or additional product may incur extra cost.

What else do I need to know about Belkyra?

Belkyra (as with most cosmetic procedures) does come with some side effects to be aware of including some redness, pain and swelling around the treatment area. The effects typically last about 3 days but may persist for up to 4 weeks or longer.

“Patients can usually return to work and most daily activities immediately after treatment but should avoid very strenuous exercise for a few days afterward as this may increase bruising and prolong swelling.” says Kerry.

Belkyra was approved by the Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) for treating fat and fullness under the chin but it has not yet been approved for other areas of the body.

We’re so excited about this addition to North Coast Medispa. Belkyra has been getting a lot of publicity in the last year or so and it’s no wonder – check out the before and afters, the results speak for themselves!
