Trish Hammond: I’m so excited today, everyone. I’m here today with Catherine, or we like to call her Cat, who works in Dr Jake Lim’s clinic, which is called My klinik, which is located at Cecil Avenue in Castle Hill. So, welcome, Cat.

Catherine: Hi.

Trish Hammond: How are you?

Catherine: Thank you for having me. I’m good thank you, very well.

Trish Hammond: Thanks so much for being a part of this podcast. Really excited because we don’t get to … Like, you guys are always so busy so we never really get a chance to talk to you during work hours, so this is great, because your kids have gone to bed, it’s late at night, and we can just have a chat now.

Catherine: Perfect timing though.

Trish Hammond: Yeah. So tell us, I know that Dr Lim is always really busy, he does amazing procedures and a lot of them. Can you just tell us … We’ll walk about what he does, first off. So what’s Dr Jake Lim’s fantastic procedure that he’s great at? I know you’re going to say everything. What makes him so great, Cat?

Catherine: The reason that makes him so great is he’s just honest surgeon. From the get go, when you first meet him, he asks what you want or what your expectations are. With Dr Lim as well, he treats you as a person, so not just a number. So, he specialises in obviously, you know, all surgeries … I’m going to say that Trish, because I can’t help it.

Trish Hammond: Yep.

Catherine: We just don’t do … How to I say this? It’s funny ’cause I’m so nervous.

Trish Hammond: I know what you mean. You don’t just do just the tummy-tuck or just the boobs, it’s sort of the gamut of everything.

Catherine: That’s right, definitely. With that as well, we do a lot of weight-loss surgery as well, so patients who’ve lost a lot of weight … We start from the first stages and we’ve been doing a lot of that lately. So you know, they’ve lost so much weight and then they just want to get their life back together.

Trish Hammond: Yep.

Catherine: So it’s pretty much extra skin and things. You know, it’s like the final stages. So we do a lot of that. Obviously breast augmentation of all ages, a lot of breast reductions. We do even otoplasty, everything.

Trish Hammond: Yep, the arms. I actually met a friend of Doctor Lim by seeing someone’s arms that were done ages ago and that’s how I first came across Doctor Lim. So I know he’s quite popular for the massive weight loss patients as well.

Catherine: Yes, yeah and in that we in the consultation team, he takes his time as well. You can bring anyone with you like a support person, but it gets a bit daunting obviously when you have a consultation and you’re pretty vulnerable because you know, you explain like, what you’re expecting and what you’ve gone through. So I find, I meet them afterwards, so after their consultation.

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm.

Dr Jake Lim

Dr Jake Lim

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: And it’s tough to empathise as well, unless you’ve been through it but you know, we’ve seen so many patients like that that we kind of know where they’re coming from.

Trish Hammond: Yeah, totally. I know what you mean because I am that patient so I know exactly what you mean.

Catherine: Are you?!

Trish Hammond: Yes I am! So there you go.

Catherine: Okay.

Trish Hammond: Yeah, well I was going to say, one thing I love is … I like the fact that, from what I can gather is, people aren’t just a number.

Catherine: Yeah.

Trish Hammond: Like people actually matter. So he takes his time with them at the consult, finds out what they want, and then come up with a plan together to make their dreams come true hopefully!

Catherine: And his goal is to also be realistic about it as well, because I think, you know, patients come in, and you’re like “oh I want to look like this” and you can’t. It’s all individual, like you can only push yourself to be something. You can’t change, you can just enhance.

Trish Hammond: I know what you mean, enhance … Just make it better, if you can.

Catherine: I’ve had surgery myself, actually.

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: I had breast reduction, yeah, about 5 years ago. Best thing I ever did.

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm (affirmative). Yeah right.

Catherine: You feel at peace.

Trish Hammond: Yeah exactly. Can’t do it for anyone else, that’s so true. So enough about the surgery, let’s talk about the non-surgical stuff because I know you guys have got a pumping little clinic that happens there as well.

Catherine: (laughing) So busy!

Trish Hammond: I know. I know! So what treatments do you guys offer?

Catherine: Yeah, we do all anti-wrinkle, so we do Botox obviously, we do fillers as well. Doctor Mulas does it … Doctor George Mulas who comes twice a week, we have rooms at the spa. Forgot to mention, at Westmead, so Westmead Private Hospital as well as Castle Hill.

Trish Hammond: Okay.

Catherine: And Doctor Mulas is the same as Doctor Lim, very honest as well … Will say “no you’ve done enough, or that’s it.” You know? So yeah.

Trish Hammond: It’s not just about getting someone in and you know …

Catherine: Out.

Trish Hammond: You know, because if you don’t think they need it, he’s going to give them the right advice.

Catherine: That’s right. That’s right and with fillers as well like, you can’t have it done the same day.

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: See the patient first and then the second consult was Botox yeah. If you’ve had it before you can have it on same day usually.

Trish Hammond: Okay, okay. So you come for the consult and the person has surgery, and I know that your aftercare is exemplary. So can you tell us a little bit about the process for the consumer. What happens after they’ve had their surgery? So say for example, if someone’s had massive weight loss surgery for example?

Catherine: Like afterwards?

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: A few of us girls sell Veripack, Mancha, Robyn and Madeline as well. I can say names can’t I? I’m just thinking. Am I allowed to say? Maybe while we’re all on the word fat and so from the get go, we’re talking about post-op? Or from the beginning?

Trish Hammond: Yeah I think post-op’s good because we kind of covered a little bit in the beginning but I know there’s a whole lot more.

Catherine: Yeah. So after surgery they’ll always have the aftercare. So not only during office hours, we also have a number that they can call after-hours and weekends, which is really important. I usually call them a day after, if they don’t pick up then obviously I’ll leave a message, “call me back”. So, if they wanted to call us every day they could afterwards.

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Catherine: So we do that service. As you know, I’m not always there but when they do call the girls put them through or if I’m consulting I’ll call them back straight away. With that, they can always contact by email, phone, so we’re always there. So we just don’t have the surgery and then, you know, you’re like cattle and we ship you out. We don’t do that. I think that’s actually the most important because that’s when you know that the whole practise actually cares about you.

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Catherine: And Doctor Lim, obviously. As a whole, we’re like a team.

Trish Hammond: That’s so good because I have heard some horror stories of people not being contacted after surgery.

Catherine: Really?

Trish Hammond: Making calls because they’re worried about stuff and not getting calls back. It’s –

Catherine: Because they’ve done the surgery. The surgeries done.

Trish Hammond: It happens all the time, Cat.

Catherine: Awe geez, no!

Trish Hammond: I know.

Catherine: I think that’s unacceptable.

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: You can’t … Not just from a business point of view, if you look at it as if your person or your family. How would you like to be treated? Or if that was your sibling or father?

Trish Hammond: Absolutely.

Catherine: Yeah.

Trish Hammond: Yeah, everybody matters that’s so good.

Catherine: Of course.

Trish Hammond: Which hospitals does Doctor Lim do his procedures in, so Westmead?

Catherine: Yep he does it at Westmead Private and also now at the new hospital, H.S.S., Hospital for Special Surgery at Bella Vista. So yeah, that’s where we operate. With the hospitals though, Westmead Private is the main for the bigger surgeries, we get as in like weight loss surgery, tummy tucks, breast reductions…

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Catherine: Hospital for Special Surgeries is just for the day, not the quick ones but the one’s where you can go home usually then the same day.

Trish Hammond: Yeah, okay.

Catherine: We normally operate at Westmead Private, only because there’s more days available. H.S.S. is usually Monday, every fortnight so, yeah.

Trish Hammond: Okay, all right.

Catherine: Both are accredited though, like they’re both private hospitals. I think that’s what patients sometimes don’t realise. Like with a plastic surgeon, we obviously cosmetically do it, Dr Lim only does it at hospitals with the proper anaesthetist.

Trish Hammond: Mm-hmm (affirmative), okay.

Catherine: It’s very important.

Trish Hammond: Yeah, that’s true and whether it’s day surgery or overnight. So if it’s overnight it might be Westmead. So the Bella Vista one is just day surgery.

Catherine: Yeah.

Trish Hammond: Okay, okay. Great. So I’m going to just run through their procedures so Dr Lim does face lift?

Catherine: Yes.

Trish Hammond: Does he do neck lift as well?

Catherine: Pretty much, with the facelift and necklift sometimes they’re together, but yeah he can do that. Yeah.

Trish Hammond: Okay … Nose? Eyes? Ears?

Catherine: Yes.

Trish Hammond: All of the breast work?

Catherine: All the breast work.

Trish Hammond: Augment? Lifts? Reduction? The whole lot?

Catherine: Yep. The whole lot.

Trish Hammond: Great.

Catherine: He doesn’t do reconstruction if you were going to ask that.

Trish Hammond: Okay. All right, yep. Great. And gynaecomastia for the guys as well?

Catherine: Yep. Definitely, yep.

Trish Hammond: Tummy? Lipo and then all the body contouring?

Catherine: Yeah, so all the lipo, body lifts, thigh lifts, arm lifts, everything, upper back, anything like that.

Trish Hammond: Okay, and the circumferential body lift, does he do that as well?

Catherine: Yeah, that’s under the-

Trish Hammond: Oh yeah, of course, of course, body lift.

Catherine: Yeah.

Trish Hammond: Great! Excellent.

Trish Hammond: All right. Well thank you so much. That’s been really good. One of the things I absolutely love about Dr Lim is I’ve heard so many great stories about him and I know that you guys provide an amazing aftercare service. And I know that you’re always there for your patients because every time I ring you’re always with a patient!

Catherine: I’m like “I will call her back! Trish I’m sorry!” No. Really that’s like the focus of our practise, as well.

Trish Hammond: But it’s great and I love that it’s got that nice, sort of, family sort of, homey feel to it, because I have actually been into the clinic a couple of years ago.

Catherine: You have?!

Trish Hammond: I have, I’ve been in a couple of times actually a couple of years ago, and it’s just got that nice vibe about it, you know? You feel welcomed and invited.

Catherine: Yeah well patients, you know, when I meet them they go “hey” … Of course they always ask me “is he good?” And I go “of course I’m going to say he’s good but you’ll know when you meet him, you’ll know”.

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: Your intuition will tell you.

Trish Hammond: Yeah.

Catherine: You’ll be all right.

Trish Hammond: That’s so true, that’s so true. Well thanks Catherine, thanks for sharing that with us tonight.

Catherine: All good. Anytime!

Trish Hammond: Great.

Catherine: Thanks Trish!

Trish Hammond: No worries, so if you’re after a consultation with Dr Lim or if you’re after a non-surgical treatment at his clinic as well just drop us an email to: help@plasticsurgeryhub.com.au or you can actually look him up online if you just type in Dr Jake Lim, you’ll find his website everywhere. So thanks Cat!

Catherine: Thanks Trish. Bye!

Trish Hammond: Bye!
