Celebrities and Plastic Surgery – What’s Good and What’s Not

Celebrities and Plastic Surgery – How much is just right to look natural?

Plastic surgery used to be something to hide, even for celebrities who loved the limelight. Nowadays, it’s more acceptable to admit to having had a little help with a plastic surgery enhancement or reshaping, whether it’s a nose job, breast augmentation, dermal fillers or anything else. While you would think having enough money to choose the most experienced and qualified plastic surgeons would mean celebrities have better results, it doesn’t always turn out that way. We take a look at Celebrities and Plastic Surgery – What’s good and what’s not good.

Even celebrities can make bad choices when it comes to their surgeon or procedure. When your picture is taken at every turn and your appearance is scrutinised every time you step out your front door, from the laugh lines around your eyes to the size of your breasts in your dress, we can understand a celebrity’s motivation for splashing their cash on a nose job, fillers or a breast augmentation.

Some stars admit to finally fixing that bump on their nose or getting implants to feel more voluptuous. And of course fillers, anti-wrinkle injections and vampire facials are almost expected before a walk on the red carpet. Some even openly post their before and after photos!

Good Celebrity Plastic Surgery Results

The best celebrity plastic surgery is like any good plastic surgery job – it looks natural, is not too over the top and allows the person to maintain their unique beauty. Here’s a few celebrities we’ve picked as having done plastic surgery right.

Kaley Cuoco before and after her rhinoplasty and breast augmentation

Kaley Cuoco (Actress from The Big Bang Theory)
Kaley admitted to a nose job and breast implants and openly discussed her plastic surgery. She told Cosmopolitan magazine her breast augmentation was “the best decision she ever made”. Kaley had next to nothing in the boob department before her surgery but her new breasts are a perfect size for her frame. Her nose is also well done and fits in perfectly with the rest of her facial features. Dr Sandercoe says proportion is key. “It’s important when looking at any cosmetic surgery that you are realistic about your body type and proportions. This is crucial to achieving natural-looking breast augmentation results. Your breast implants must be proportionate to your natural body frame. If you are tall and curvy, you will need larger implants to achieve a modest boost in size than if you were short and petite.”

Iggy Azalea (Singer)
It seems boobs and noses are the most popular things to change amongst celebs and Iggy jumped on the bandwagon. She says she had thought about having a boob job for most of her life and when she became a singing sensation she finally took the plunge and got some cleavage and a more shapely nose. However, we think Iggy looks absolutely fantastic and definitely made the right improvements. Dr Sandercoe says, “The quality of your results hinge on the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. One of the keys to achieving your desired surgical outcomes is to work with a reputable plastic surgeon that has a lot of experience with breast augmentation. Your surgeon should take the time to understand your preferences and tailor a treatment plan based around your goals and expectations. Iggy obviously had a quality surgeon.”

Other awesome celebrity plastic surgery results or potential surgeries that made our list include:

  • Kelly Rowland (breast augmentation)
  • Jennifer Aniston (rhinoplasty)
  • Ashlee Simpson (nose job)
  • Ariel Winter from Modern Family (breast reduction) – Ariel shows how having too much boob can weigh you down.
  • Caitlyn Jenner (Making the male to female transition can be difficult and we think Caitlyn shows how to do it and stay classy!)

Not Good Celebrity Plastic Surgery

Some celebrities just get it wrong. Whether it’s because they chose the wrong surgeon, or because they didn’t stop when they should, some celebrities just look sad and sometimes scary. Most of these don’t need explaining.

  • Tara Reid Plastic Surgery– Tara’s breast augmentation was notorious. The shape, the rippling, the terrible cleavage… there wasn’t much right about it. The same goes for the liposuction she had at the same time. Her surgeon did not do a good job.
  • Tori Spelling Plastic Surgery – we wonder if Tara had the same surgeon as Tori. Tori got implants before it was socially acceptable and the dodgy job just made it even worse.
  • Melanie Griffith Plastic Surgery – Melanie was beautiful before and while in the beginning her plastic surgery wasn’t too bad, we think she took it a little too far. This is a classic case of not knowing when to stop.
  • Daryl Hannah  Plastic Surgery – Daryl’s had a few procedures and treatments over the years but we hate to say it, but does her latest lot of procedures make her look a little like a milder version of Jocelyn Wildenstein? Let’s hope the swelling goes down… a lot.
Daryl was gorgeous before her surgery – did she take it too far?

Less is More with Celebrities and Plastic Surgery

The moral of this article is that sometimes less is more. Plastic surgery can change your life for the better. It can fix parts of yourself that you’ve always wanted to change and can give you more confidence and self-esteem. Just keep in mind that a more natural appearance is usually the more beautiful option. Even if you want unnatural-looking results, getting the best results really comes down to choosing the right plastic surgeon.

Eventually, every celebrity has to address the issue of cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery. Here are the different types of celebrity plastic surgery.

When it comes to how they handle this tricky subject, stars generally fall into 4 categories:

1. The Open Book

Everyone knows that Joan Rivers is the ultimate open book when it comes to plastic surgery. It would be hard for her to be discreet considering all the (very visible) work she’s had done. But increasingly celebrities have been forthcoming about their surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. For example, singer Kelly Rowland and actress Kaley Cuoco were both happy and proud to sing the praises of their breast augmentation surgeries. Singer Toni Braxton was very candid about her multiple plastic surgery procedures in her new memoir, Unbreak My Heart. In fact, she even discusses additional procedures she wishes she’d had or may have in the future. These stars are commended for their bravery and candor, but also often receive criticism from Haters (see below).

2. The Minimizer

This is a relatively new phenomenon, the celebrity who admits to cosmetic procedures…kind of. Actress Jane Seymour admitted to a “minor eye lift,” and breast augmentation, but claimed her breast implants were so small her surgeon had to special order them. Actress Robin Wright recently admitted to having a “sprinkling” of Anti-wrinkle injections, and only twice a year. Lots of others, like Britney Spears, have admitted to lip fillers and other “fun stuff.” And a whole slew of celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow claim to have “tried” Anti-wrinkle injections, but imply that they are no longer users. It seems like these people want the praise that comes with being open and honest about cosmetic procedures, and superiority of being a “natural beauty.”

3. The Hater

This is the star who denounces plastic surgery altogether, and makes a big fuss about how opposed they are to the concept. British actresses Emma Thompson, Rachel Weisz, and Kate Winslet are so anti-plastic surgery that they’ve formed the British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League. Julia Roberts and Salma Hayek have both claimed they’ll never go under the knife, and Drew Barrymore said she’d rather look like a basset hound than get Anti-wrinkle injections. Let’s see what she has to say when she hits her 40s.

4. The Tight-lipped Confidante

These are the stars who, despite visible evidence to the contrary, insist they haven’t had surgery. Model Christie Brinkley and her daughter Alexis Joel have both been the subject of much speculation when it comes to plastic surgery. The 60-year-old Brinkley claims to be au naturel, and Joel admits only to a nose job. Rumors are constantly swirling about Kim Kardashian’s alleged cosmetic surgery exploits, claiming she’s had everything from butt implants to toe liposuction, but the celebutante claims her looks came naturally. Despite photos that indicate a dramatic facial transformation, Angelina Jolie denies she’s had work done. Since they’re not telling and their surgeons are bound to secrecy, we’ll just have to keep guessing.

Which One Are You?

Everyone has his or her own ideas about plastic surgery, whether they’d choose to have cosmetic procedures, and if they’d discuss their decision openly. To accommodate a patient’s right to keep surgery entirely hush-hush, surgery centers across the country have added discreet back entrances and exits like the surgeons-to-the-stars use. According to the Center for Cosmetic Surgery’s website, patients who undergo procedures such as breast augmentation at their Denver facility wait in a private lounge, and leave via a private exit.

For those who want to shout it from the rooftops, there are plenty of blogs, such as Plastic Surgery Hub, that give patients a forum for sharing their stories and even photos.

The important thing to remember is, whether you’re the Tight-lipped sort or an Open Book, how you choose to discuss (or not discuss) your cosmetic choices is entirely up to you.

‘I’ve had a little cosmetic surgery done’, when we hear these words nowadays the usual response has changed. When people first started having cosmetic procedures they rarely admitted to it. Instead opting to pretend their nose had ‘always been that shape’ or that their ‘thighs have always been that thin’. The response now tends to be along the lines of ‘Great work, who was your surgeon’.

This is mainly because of celebrities. We’ve all read the newspaper articles; Victoria Beckham denying her boob job, Jennifer Aniston claiming she’s not had a nose job. When the celebs don’t admit to cosmetic procedures it makes us, the general public, think that maybe it’s something we should all deny.

This attitude is slowly beginning to change. After all, what’s wrong with improving your image? Absolutely nothing! Women are now giving more respect to the celebs that admit to having cosmetic procedures. After all, we’re not stupid; we know when a celebrity face has been cosmetically enhanced.

There has always been an obsession with wanting to know which celebrities had what cosmetic procedure. The one’s that come right out and admit it are the ones we respect more. Tori Spelling says ‘I’ll admit to my nose job because that’s the only thing I’ve had done. I lost my baby weight myself’ and Wayne Rooney tweeted about his hair transplant straight away.

Admitting to cosmetic surgery is becoming more common because of the rise in popularity of the non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Clinics are now able to perform non-surgical nose jobs – a procedure where fillers are injected into the nose to straighten out a bump. You can be in and out of clinics nowadays in the space of a few hours. With everyone’s workloads increasing this is ideal for the busy men and women of the world.

What hasn’t changed over the years is peoples’ quest for youth. We are a lot more open in todays’ society about the things we do to hold on to our youthful appearance. Drink more water, buy the fancy anti-aging creams, have a little Anti-wrinkle injections or skin filler. Nobody even bats an eyelid when they find out a friend or colleague has had Anti-wrinkle injections. It’s part of modern day living. This is a giant leap for womankind who are used to slandering other women for enhancing their natural beauty. Now we admire and compliment. After all, it’s human nature to want to look better and now it’s so accessible that why wouldn’t you erased your frown lines or replenish your skin.

Cosmetic procedures, when done correctly, can change a persons’ life. If you’ve ever felt down about your appearance or are beginning to detest what you see when you look in the mirror then a cosmetic procedure could be for you. With people becoming more open to others having surgery and the negative connotations depleting daily it’s making both women and men consider improving their flaws.

Once you’ve found the correct cosmetic clinic for you your surgeon will talk you through your procedure making you feel comfortable with your decided to improve your appearance. Then, depending upon your chosen treatment, you could have the face and body you’ve dreamed of within hours or days.
