There is a new product that we are excited about. Breastlight is designed for checking your breasts for irregularities at home; and whilst it does not replace regular mammograms especially for those over 50 years of age; it can be used as part of your regular breast checking regime.
With an estimated 16,084 new cases diagnosed and 3073 deaths from breast cancer in Australia in 2016, it is one of the biggest killers we face as a society today. The only good news about breast cancer is that because of early diagnosis, almost 90% of women will survive at least five years after diagnosis. Obviously, the earlier it is detected, the better chance of survival.
Breastlight – check your breasts at home
How does breastlight work?
After extensive testing of breastlight it has been released into the Australian market. It works by shining a bright red light into your breast tissue and this light will allow you to see dark spots or shadows in your breast that may suggest an abnormality and should be checked out by your doctor. Breastlight is completely harmless and can be used as often as you like. It will allow you to become more familiar with your breasts and know what they look like, so you will notice when they change. Not all changes mean breast cancer, but it will help you to be familiar enough with your breasts that you will be able to monitor them a lot better than you would without Breastlight.
