I absolutely love Dr Naomi who is considered one of Australia’s Injectables Gurus and she was one of my favourite interviews at the recent Non-Surgical Symposium 2018. Dr Naomi chatted to me about all sorts of things relating to injectables including the increasing popularity of the O Shot (improving women’s orgasms) and the P Shot (penis enlargement). This is one podcast you have to listen to!
Trish: Hey podcasters, it’s Trish from Transforming Bodies and I am really excited to be here today with Dr. Naomi McCullum. She’s also famously known as just Dr. Naomi and she is in, it’s Double Bay, isn’t it?
Dr. Naomi: Paddington.
Trish: Paddington, sorry. I don’t know Sydney very well.
Dr. Naomi: It’s okay.
Trish: So she’s based in Paddington, and I’ve been kind of following Dr. Naomi for ages because she is, without a doubt, Australia’s injectable guru. In my mind, there is no doubt about it. Sorry, sorry, stroke, stroke, stroke. And so she’s been kind enough to have a chat with me today at the Nonsurgical Symposium. I just want to have a chat to her about all the things that they offer in their clinic and kind of how she started and all that sort of thing. So welcome, Naomi.
Dr. Naomi: Thank you Trish.
Trish: Thanks so much for being here today, I’m so excited.
Dr. Naomi: I’m nervous.
Trish: Yeah, I’m nervous too. I must be way more nervous than you.
Dr. Naomi: We’ll survive.
Trish: Yeah. So tell me, first of all, how’d you start off … how’d you go from doctor to cosmetic doctor?
Dr. Naomi: So, I’d finished my internship and I went and had … am I allowed to say “injectables” on this one?
Trish: I don’t know, just say it.
Dr. Naomi: Oh, let’s get wild.
Dr. Naomi: I went and had “injectables”, which just came to Australia. And I was like, “Oh, this is it. This is what I can do.” So then I found out there was hardly anybody doing it, and I don’t know how I got in contact with Kit, from a doctor in Perth, who was … I don’t know if she’s the president of the CPSA, this is 1999, so long time ago. And she told me what to do to become a cosmetic, a non cosmetic doctor.
Dr. Naomi: Oh sorry, a nonsurgical cosmetic doctor.
Trish: Yeah, okay. So how long did you … so you’ve been injecting since 19 …
Dr. Naomi: So then, it was hard for me to get a job because I had no experience. There were hardly any clinics, there were hardly any doctors doing it. So my first job was with a cosmetic surgery broker, at the time. So not in the industry anymore. Doing microdermabrasion, and we learned how to do “injectables”, as well. And then, I just worked for a … then, once I had experience, I could work … I got a job with a dermatologist and then at another big cosmetic clinic and I worked there for a few years and then started my own.
Trish: Okay. So you’ve been injecting since 1999?
Dr. Naomi: No, no. I probably started work … maybe 2001, injecting?
Trish: I’m so glad it was 2000s and not 19 something…
Dr. Naomi: …makes you feel too old?
Trish: No, no, no. Okay. So you would have been one of the first injectors around, or … do you think?
Dr. Naomi: There weren’t many. At the conference in 1999, which was in Adelaide, there weren’t many people there.
Trish: Yeah, right. Well I remember hearing about the first … the first time I heard that Kylie Minogue had injectables, I was like, “No,” like I didn’t believe it even existed. I had no idea.
Dr. Naomi: I know, I know. How cute.
Trish: I don’t know if that’s cute, but … so tell me, so obviously you’ve been doing this for almost 20 years. So how has it changed over time?
Dr. Naomi: Well, we didn’t do a lot back in the start. So we did a lot of … we did so much more “injectables” in the start and then we did, we had collagen, so we didn’t even have restylane, so we had collagen, which was a pain because, yeah, we’re so lucky now to have what we have.
Dr. Naomi: We had collagen, we did lips, we did little line filling, we did nasolabials, and then volumizing came into fashion. Yeah. And so we just grew with information.
Dr. Naomi: And, in terms of the industry, in the beginning there were just hardly any providers, there were hardly any patients. But then there was an explosion.
Trish: Yeah. Right. Do you reckon that’s happened in the last, what, how many years? The explosion.
Dr. Naomi: I can’t really say, it’s hard for me to say on a big scale, because I only know my personal story.
Trish: Yeah. True.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Trish: True. All right. So tell me, so I know you’ve got an amazing clinic that … or a new clinic, actually. Is that a new clinic? The Manse?
Dr. Naomi: No, so it’s … ah yeah, I had a clinic before. And then I shut that one and opened the Manse nearly two years ago.
Trish: Okay. Okay. And from what I can see, it’s going great guns. And I love that you offer a whole variety treatments, now I know you’re going to start offering a few more, extra, I guess intimate treatments, for want of a better word.
Dr. Naomi: Maybe.
Dr. Naomi: Oh, we do, we do O boosts, P boosts, penis enlargement, yeah.
Trish: Okay. Oh, so you do all that now?
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Trish: All right. So tell me, because … you’ve got a really good reputation and there’s different sort of looks for different people, like you know how people have really got the big lips, then you’ve got people that just want the natural. I just perceived that you only do the ones that like the big lips, but then I’ve actually discovered a whole other people that come to you, that obviously may not be quite so out there with their photos, so you do so much of the natural stuff, as well.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah, we do. We do a lot. It’s just that people see the out there stuff because they’re the people who consent.
Dr. Naomi: So your people who are hiding it and want natural, they’re not going to go on my social media.
Trish: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that’d be like, well, now I don’t really care about the natural way. Yeah, I’m not going to go and say … yeah, well that’s true. So you do both. And what other treatment do you offer at the Manse?
Dr. Naomi: Lots of different ones. But mostly filler, “injectables”, laser.
Trish: Okay. All right. And then you add the, well, the new … the penis enlargements. So can you tell us a little bit about that? Because I know that that’s a really growing area, because-
Dr. Naomi: Yeah, it’s a really growing area. Yeah.
Trish: Yeah. So to speak, sorry. Having fun. I didn’t read that.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah. I think it’s going to just keep on growing.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah. And also, because I think they find that once a guy has … it’s like when women start having filler, it’s … they love it. They love looking at themselves in the mirror with an improved face. It’s the same with the men with the penises.
Dr. Naomi: Looking down on a bigger penis, how happy are they?
Trish: Oh, that’s true.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah. And they just get inspired and want it bigger.
Dr. Naomi: Same as women get inspired when they look a little younger or a little bit prettier, they want more.
Trish: Oh, it’s so addictive. I’ve just found that I think … or even with plastic surgery, once you’ve had skin removal or whatever, it’s like “Oh my God, what can I get done next?” Not for everyone, but just for some it becomes really addictive.
Dr. Naomi: Oh yeah, I’ve always got a list.
Trish: Yeah. Yeah, same. And the thing is-
Dr. Naomi: Growing.
Trish: Yeah, totally. And I’m sure you agree that these days, we just want to look better, we want to look healthier. And it does make you look healthier when you look rejuvenated.
Dr. Naomi: Of course. Imagine having sun-damaged skin versus non-sun-damaged skin.
Dr. Naomi: With all of the redness gone, taking your lumps off your skin, just clear skin itself is really healthy appearing.
Trish: Yeah. And I think one of the things that I’ve noticed lately is gone are the days where you just go and … or sorry, I think this is what should happen, if it hasn’t. But gone are the days where you just walk up here and get a little bit of this, a little bit of that. People want to find someone that they can actually trust to go on a journey for the rest of their, you know, anti-aging life or however long that might be.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah. Our approach is definitely that one.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Trish: So people come on board and then you can put a plan together for them, because you’re not going to do everything at once, are you?
Dr. Naomi: No, it’s a long journey. And we just want people to be as beautiful as they can possibly be.
Trish: Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Trish: So making everyone beautiful, one face at a time.
Dr. Naomi: Yeah.
Trish: Awesome. Well thank you so much for talking with us today.
Dr. Naomi: Thank you. No worries.
Trish: I’m really, really honoured. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. No worries, no worries.
Dr. Naomi: Aw, you’re sweet.
Trish: So guys, if you haven’t checked out Dr. Naomi, you can just google her, Dr. Naomi. Or otherwise, you can just … it’s sorry, it’s the Manse, the M-A-N-S-E. If you have any problems, just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks Naomi.
Dr. Naomi: Bye.
