Fat dissolving injections for submental fat is taking off – it’s popularity is skyrocketing. It seems there’s more of us unhappy with our double chins than we realised! Belkyra is the product that’s taking the Australian market by storm, and we’ve had heaps of you asking where you can find this treatment. In particular, for those of you asking from Far North Queensland, we’ve done our homework and discovered you can find it at Cairns Plastic Surgery with Plastic Surgeon Dr Isolde Hertess.
Fullness under the chin, or the dreaded double chin, affects most of us at some stage. Whether it’s from weight gain, ageing and gravity or genetics, it can be depressing to look in the mirror or at photos of ourselves and see a roll of fatty flesh getting in the way of a better looking profile. Dr Hertess tells us that her patients are loving their results with Belkyra. “Even with strict exercise and diet, this area may not go away and can make you look older and heavier. Cairns Plastic Surgery offer free nurse consultations to assess the areas of concern around your chin and neck and discuss the best treatment for you. Belkyra is a great non surgical option with minimal down time.”
How does Belkyra work?
It is basically a formula containing an ingredient that breaks down fats in your body and allows the body to get rid of them naturally through metabolising them. The ingredient in question is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid which is actually found in your body naturally. Dr Hertess explains, “When it is injected into the double chin fat, the jawline and neck can result in a better profile and tighter skin. This product is only available within a clinic and the procedure is performed by a qualified, trained injector.”
The Belkyra Procedure
The Belkyra treatment takes approximately 20 – 30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Dr Hertess says, “You may require 2 – 4 treatments over a period of weeks to achieve the visible improvement. Each person has a customised plan to suit their needs but not all individuals are candidates for the treatment. Your clinician will assess the area and let you know if this product suits you.”
There may be some swelling after the procedure which can be minimised with cold packs. The treatment itself is said to be tolerable depending on your pain threshold. A local anaesthetic can be used before the treatment to minimise any discomfort.
Dr Isolde Hertess FRACS is a highly qualified and well respected plastic surgeon who only employs practitioners with appropriate and extensive training and experience in any of the treatments they perform. She says, “I’m one of the few doctor run clinics and I have a nurse injector who has been injecting for eight years, and one that I’ve trained who’s been injecting two years. My nurses are highly qualified. They will give you a facial analysis, a plan for two years, and state your treatment. We pride ourselves to really looking after the patients. So it’s all about their experience and their journey. My nurses and I are passionate and often, our patients become our friends.”
