You can’t undo years of bad habits and unhealthy lifestyle… or can you?! Most of us know that regular exercise, proper sleep, a good diet, getting stressed less, and various other lifestyle routines can make a huge difference to our appearance and health of our skin. But most of us aren’t perfect (I’m far from it!) and apart from a small percentage of us, we’ve all done things that probably haven’t helped the cause: too much sun, too much drinking, smoking, kids (need we say more?)… Dr Eddie Cheng and his team at AR Plastic Surgery in Brisbane are getting some amazing results with non-surgical treatments to help their patients look rejuvenated, refreshed and potentially years younger. I asked them what their favourite treatments going into the summer months are and which ones will get the best results.

Anti-wrinkle treatments

Dr Cheng says anti-wrinkle treatments are still one of the most popular and effective ways to remove fine lines and signs of ageing, however to get the desired effect Dr Cheng says it’s essential to go to a practitioner who knows what they’re doing. “Anti-wrinkle injections can soften the existing signs of ageing, and also prevent lines from getting worse. With an ultra fine needle, I along with our Aesthetic Nurse, can treat specific muscles responsible for certain movements. Achieving a natural looking result to facial movement and expression, while softening harsh facial lines, is both an art and a finely tuned technical skill. We deliver natural looking results, so our patients look younger, not frozen. It’s so important to get a practitioner who has an extensive knowledge of facial anatomy so they know where they’re injecting”.

Chemical Peels

Dr Cheng says they love chemical peels as they are an inexpensive but effective way for patients to have an instant lift without the invasiveness of other treatments. “Chemical peels are designed to regenerate and resurface the skin by exfoliating the top layers of the skin which in turn improves sun-damage, pigmentation, wrinkles, texture and the overall appearance of the skin. Chemical peels can also help to address common skin concerns such as acne, solar lentigines, melasma, and keratosis pillaris. It is important to know that there are different types and strengths of chemical peels. Each is designed to suit different skin types and problems.” Again, this is why it is really important to go to a clinic with a good reputation and appropriately trained practitioners, even for something as “simple” as a chemical peel.

Fillers

Losing volume in your face makes you look tired and less youthful. Dr Cheng says that well placed fillers can provide a completely natural looking rejuvenation. “Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural complex sugar. The dermal fillers favoured by AR Plastic Surgery last longer, look natural and come in different formulations depending on the area we are treating. Dermal fillers for static lines (lines present when your face is at rest) used in conjunction with anti-wrinkle injections (targeting lines during facial expressions) can yield even better and longer lasting results.”
