Interplast is a not-for-profit organisation that are involved in creating the quality of life for people who have a disability which is a result of a congenital or acquired medical condition, such as burn scar contractors, cleft lip and palate. How do they do this? They do this by sending fully qualified Australian and New Zealand plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to the Asia Pacific region. These professionals are volunteers! They provide free surgical treatment for patients that would not be able to afford the access to this kind of service. It’s all about the function and enabling the person’s full engagement in society. Interplast also prides themselves on their intentions to leave a legacy. Their aim? To do themselves out of a job! Interplast focusses heavily on facilitating medical training and mentoring for in-country medical personnel by supporting and building the capacity of local health services. Quite simply, their purpose is to provide life-changing surgery today and sustainable health systems tomorrow. Interplast changes lives. They give our time. They combat disability. They implement change. They give opportunity. They build capacity. They support families. They support communities. They strengthen. They succeed. They transform. They empower. Interplast believes they are Australia and New Zealand’s best kept secret! Check them out at
