The derrière, bottom, bum, or gluteus maximus are a small sample of some of the names that we call our bottom. The buttock area is significant as it can have a number of uses, ranging from; cushioning our bones when we sit and lie down, to attracting members of the opposite sex (or same sex). The bottom is undeniably one of the most useful parts of the body however, some have not been blessed with attractive buttocks like others have.
Men and women obviously come in all shapes and sizes. Some hold their weight in different places than others while some are a little more rounded, everyone is different and that’s a great thing. However, not everyone is happy with what nature has given them and this can lead to lack of self confidence and low-self esteem issues which can affect an individual’s life immensely.
Why have Buttock Augmentation Surgery?
A new form of plastic surgery has swept the globe that can turn your bottom from being a small, saggy insignificant part of your body, to becoming a beautiful, sexy, firm bottom. These operations have been tested out by the likes of famous individuals such as Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian and they have shown that is it now hot in Hollywood to have a more prominent bottom.
Over the years surgeons have devised a surgery that is called a ‘Buttock Augmentation’. This essentially is a form of elective plastic surgery, which is used to make the buttocks bigger. When deciding to have buttock augmentation surgery, you will be offered a number of options. The implants themselves are extremely important, as these will be used to create the shape and size of your buttocks.
There are a number of shapes and sizes of implants but there is no need to stress, your surgeon will go through all of your options and help you decide which shape and size would best suit your body, keeping your body looking natural. There are two kinds of material that the implants can be filled with and these are; solid silicone or cohesive silicone, both of which have a natural but firm feel to them.
If you choose not to use buttock implants, you may decide to use a variety of fat transfer techniques which is where fat can be removed from one part of your body and used to pad out the buttock. This fat transfer technique is excellent as it is not only using your natural fat, but can reduce the chances of rejection which is where your immune system tries to get rid of the foreign body inside your skin. However, if you are a slim individual, there may not be enough fat, which can be used to enhance your buttocks therefore a buttock implant, is usually required.
In a majority of cases, the implant is placed under numerous layers of muscles and fat. The implants are not designed to be sat on directly; therefore they must be placed under the muscle layers.
Buttock augmentation is not an outpatient procedure and needs to be done under a general anesthetic, requiring a hospital stay. It can however be completed alongside other plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction, however this will increase the amount of time you are under the general anesthetic, and will also increase your recovery time.
Risks and Complications
There are a number of risks and complications that come hand in hand with undergoing a general anesthetic. By law, these will be discussed with you both in your consultation and just prior to you going into surgery.
The risks and complications that come with having buttock augmentation can include infection. Infection of the implant itself is extremely rare, however can happen and can cause scar tissue to form around the implant, constricting the implant and can usually be resolved with a course of antibiotics. However, if the infection continues, it may result in the implants having to be removed.
Swelling is always a possibility when having buttock augmentation. Swelling is caused by tissue damage, consequently causing the surrounding tissue to leak and cause swelling. It is painful but usually goes down after a short while. If it persists then you will need to seek the advice of your surgeon.
Pain is another complication due to the amount of layers of muscle that have been cut through in order to place the implants, which will cause some pain. This can be managed with pain relief, which your surgeon will prescribe for you.
