Cellulite (Gynoid lipodystrophy) is common in 90% of all women. It can appear anywhere on the body but is especially common around the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and upper arms. It is caused by fat pockets protruding between the connective tissue layers beneath your skin due to the fat cell chambers breaking down, to create a dimpled effect.
Cellulite is different to normal fat in that it is more stubborn and is not usually budged no matter how much diet and exercise you do.
There are a few treatments claimed to be successful in treating cellulite including creams, massage, fat-dissolving injections, surgery and laser, however the most effective seem to be skin tightening devices using ultrasound or radiofrequency technology.
