Vaginal Rejuvenation & Regeneration

Like all our organs, the vagina and vulva are not immune to the effects of time. Menopause is also a major contributor as the vagina is affected by declining oestrogen production.

Approximately half of women aged in their forties and beyond experience symptoms of genital atrophy which can significantly affect their sexual experience and quality of life. For many women, the vagina is no longer at its optimum state and as a result, the sensual side of sexual gratification is diminished.

Laser vaginal rejuvenation (LVR) is a new, non-surgical procedure for treating age-related vaginal atrophy. It is a safe, effective and long-lasting solution without the adverse side effects of drug therapies.

This procedure may also assist with urinary incontinence (involuntary loss of urine with laughing, coughing, sneezing or exercising). Women who have had children want a solution to rejuvenate the vagina and achieve the best sexual experience possible.

Discuss all your medical history, and list all of the medications, vitamins and herbs you are taking, with your doctor. Discontinue using Aspirin (including medications that contain Aspirin), Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E and other supplements as directed as these act as blood thinners and could cause excessive bruising, bleeding or other complications. If you smoke you will need to stop smoking for at least two weeks before and one week after treatment, as smoking can impair circulation and healing.

This is generally a fast and effective treatment that uses laser energy to stimulate collagen production and regeneration of normal vaginal tissue. It uses the same proven laser technology that has been used for the past 15 years to rejuvenate the sensitive skin on the face.

The laser is inserted through the vaginal opening and laser light is applied to the mucosal tissue of the vagina. The treatment regenerates important structures that are responsible for maintaining vaginal elasticity. Most treatments only require one hour, but the beneficial effects will continue to develop over the following months as collagen and tissue tightness is restored.

Risks and Complications

The risks and complications that come with this type of procedure are rare. Naturally, it is important to contact your doctor or surgery to advise of any complications or concerns you may have treatment.

Q. How long does it take to recover?

A. The recovery process is different for everyone, but within a day you should be back to normal activities. Pain medication will be prescribed to control any discomfort; however, if you begin to have severe pain, contact you doctor immediately.
The changes from vaginal laser treatment are long lasting. As the natural ageing process continues, top-up treatments can be repeated as required.

Q. Is the treatment painful?

A. Pain medications may be prescribed to help alleviate the discomfort, but most women report there is minimal to no pain with this procedure.

Dr Jayson Oates on the Mona Lisa Touch November 9, 2017 - Trish: Hey. I’m here this morning with Dr. Jayson Oates. And Dr. Jayson Oates is a facial plastic surgeon ENT from Academy Face and Body in W.A. And also they have a branch in Crows Nest. Dr. Oates is going to have a chat with us today about the Mona Lisa Touch and this will actually be for the female vaginal area I guess for after they’ve had cancer. So that’s kind of all I know at the moment so. So welcome Dr. Oates. Dr. Jayson Oates: Hi Trish. Good to be speaking with you again. Trish: Great to have you here. Always love having our little chats. So like Tell me about it. Dr. Jayson Oates: So the Mona Lisa Touch treatment has been around for a few years now and it’s a laser treatment that’s done inside the vagina. And it was initially designed for menopausal women and it’s shown really surprising results and success with reducing the local vaginal symptoms of menopause – so that’s the dryness; itching; a failure to lubricate during intercourse; some of the urinary issues that they have. And it’s a problem that gradually tends to develop after menopause. And once the estrogen […]

Fight vaginal atrophy with MonaLisa Touch Fight The Effects Of Vaginal Atrophy with MonaLisa Touch May 31, 2017 - I want to revisit the revolutionary Mona Lisa Touch treatment that is helping thousands of women regain control. I initially wrote about the Mona Lisa Touch in August 2015 when I had the treatment myself. It’s a bit scary putting that sort of information out there for everyone, but so many women are affected by these issues at some point in their life and we’re committed to encouraging and normalising open dialogue about any service that can offer someone a better quality of life. So I thought I’d cover again how to regain control of your vaginal atrophy with MonaLisa Touch. Vaginal Atrophy – What is it? Put simply, vaginal atrophy is the natural drying and thinning of the tissues and membranes of the vagina. According to a study by the American Association of Family Physicians, more than 40% of postmenopausal women suffer from vaginal atrophy. Although commonly encountered leading up to and following menopause as a natural part of the ageing process, vaginal atrophy may also happen following pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a result of chemotherapy, or in a number of other circumstances, and is caused by changing hormone levels leading to a lack of oestrogen production. While the […]
MonaLisa Touch Incontinence, bladder leakage – we discuss the tricky subjects… December 29, 2016 - All women at some stage of their life go through menopause. It’s inevitable and the symptoms for some women can be quite significant. Some of the symptoms are transient and will pass with time. However, another set of symptoms called genito-urinary syndrome of menopause (also known as GSM or vaginal atrophy) will appear three to four years after menopause and continue to get worse with time if not treated. While menopause is the main time women will experience these symptoms, in fact this is an issue that many women can face even before they hit menopause. It is a common problem with women undergoing treatment for certain types of cancer and it can be an issue post-pregnancy when hormones are fluctuating. The good news is there is a simple and easy solution for this often embarrassing problem. MonaLisa Touch is a revolutionary new treatment that is helping women across the globe. The Medici Clinic in Berwick (part of Cosmetic Surgery for Women in Melbourne) offer the MonaLisa Touch vaginal laser treatment, and we asked them how it works and who it can help. Symptoms Of GSM (Vaginal Atrophy) Some of the symptoms MonaLisa Touch can improve are the general symptoms […]

MonaLisa Touch Menopause and The MonaLisa Touch Laser April 4, 2016 - A subject that eventually affects all women, but is spoken about rarely, is menopause. Even less spoken about is a condition that occurs around 3-4 years after menopause and affects around 50 percent of all women (and 60% of breast cancer survivors who experience induced menopause). The condition is called genito-urinary syndrome of menopause, or GSM for short (also referred to as Vaginal Atrophy). Not every woman will have physical or emotional symptoms of menopause. However, at least 60 percent will experience mild to moderate symptoms, with 20 percent of women considered to suffer severe symptoms which impact upon their quality of life. A range of symptoms can occur including mood changes, hot flushes, memory effects, sleep disturbance, bone and joint pain and changes in sexuality and libido. Some of these effects can be short term and pass with time. However, in contrast the menopause symptoms related to GSM / vaginal atrophy will continue to get worse with time and include: Vaginal Dryness and Discomfort Bladder and Urinary Symptoms Vaginal itching Vaginal laxity Loss of lubrication Pain during intercourse The lack of moisture or lubrication in this area can be very distressing and result in an itching or burning sensation […]
MonaLisa Touch MonaLisa Touch For Vaginal Regeneration November 5, 2015 - PSH: I’m here today with Matt from High Tech Laser and we’re going to talk to you about the MonaLisa Touch which is a laser treatment for vaginal regeneration. So thank you for taking the time today, Matt. Can you tell us a little bit about it? Matt: Mona Lisa Touch is a new treatment for symptoms related to vaginal atrophy – things that many women will experience in their life – more than 50% of women. It’s symptoms that are often related to menopause but not necessarily only for women going through menopause and after menopause. So the most common symptoms that we’re treating are dryness… so, vaginal dryness and that can be caused by menopause and a thinning of the vaginal wall but also women that are breast feeding after pregnancy. When they have given birth they often get vaginal dryness because of the changes in their hormones during the period of breastfeeding and that can lead to painful intercourse which is probably the other most common symptom that we’re treating. So it’s called dyspareunia – but the common term is painful intercourse. And then some other things like vaginal laxity, itchiness and burning. And then, some patients […]
MonaLisa Touch I LAUGHED SO HARD A LITTLE BIT OF PEE CAME OUT! (But Wait, Have you Tried the Mona Lisa Touch Yet?) October 27, 2015 - I think almost all of us have done it at some stage. Laughed so hard we lost control for just long enough for a little bit of pee to come out. For some of us, it is completely manageable and moments like this are cause for even more laughter. However for others, it is no laughing matter. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 37% of women and 13% of men in Australia have experienced urinary incontinence (source: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2006). There are several reasons why we lose control over our pelvic floor muscles and therefore our ability to hold our bladder closed and stop from leaking. These might include childbirth – yes, we can blame this one again for this problem too; age – our muscles lose their strength and tightness as a natural part of ageing unless we make a specific effort not to lose function (pelvic floor muscle exercises are not to be under valued!); various disorders – such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury. There are in fact various types of incontinence, some of the main ones being: Stress incontinence This is the one related to laughing too hard, or sneezing… […]
MonaLisa Touch MonaLisa Touch and Dr. Fariba Behnia-Willison September 15, 2015 - If you have been following our posts recently or you have ever visited this page before you would have heard us mention the MonaLisa Touch. And just in case you have been living under some form of a rock you may not have heard of the MonaLisa Touch. No, we are not talking about the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting; we are in fact talking about the revolutionary, non-surgical, ‘walk in and out of the procedure within 30 minutes’ treatment for vaginal rejuvenation. We introduced you to Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison in our last article on Mona Lisa Touch. She is a South Australian based gynaecologist and was one of the first doctors in Australia to use the MonaLisa Touch. She has treated well over 3,000 patients with this machine. Dr Willison explained that she came across the MonaLisa Touch when she was confronted by the case of a 35 year old woman going through menopause because of breast cancer and chemotherapy. This woman was in so much pain both physically and emotionally. Physically because of a lack of oestrogen; and emotionally because although she had a partner who was very supportive, she was unable to enjoy any intimacy due to […]
Petit Lady VAGINAL REJUVENATION – the Petit Lady Erbium Yag Laser August 25, 2015 - When it comes to cosmetic treatments and we hear the word “laser”, consumers or patients haven’t really tended to ask what type of laser or are even aware there is more than one sort of laser. However, with all the latest technology available in the cosmetic laser treatments being offered through various devices, perhaps we should be more aware of what it is that we are signing up for. After all, it’s our bodies that are the recipient of this laser treatment. Laser technology can be used for a number of applications such as hair removal, vein removal, stimulation of collagen, smoothing out of fine lines, removal of growths such as warts and acne scarring among other things. Traditionally, the type of laser used was the CO2 laser and this has been effective for a number of years for a variety of treatments, albeit with known possible side effects. The other type of laser we want to talk about today is the Erbium YAG laser. The particular device we have researched and are talking about is the Petit Lady. The Petit Lady uses the ‘Erbium YAG’ laser type. In particular, the Petit Lady is targeted towards treating some of those […]
MonaLisa Touch Vaginal Atrophy? Breathe, or dance, a sigh of relief! MONA LISA TOUCH August 11, 2015 - As soon as I heard of the Mona Lisa Touch, I was certain that I was the perfect candidate – pre-menopausal and feeling a bit anxious knowing I’m about to enter the next ‘phase’ of my life. Yes, I’ll take any help I can get! And, a bonus if it’s quick, doesn’t hurt, and has some real benefits! Being an avid researcher I scoured through the promotional material, heard reviews, watched videos and learnt that most patients felt an improvement after only one treatment. This sounded good to me. You’ll be amazed to hear… it was everything it said it was, and more! After my treatment, which was quick (less than 10 minutes) and painless… I walked out of the practitioner rooms with no discomfort whatsoever. Every other time I’ve had laser, I’ve related it to pain. Definitely not in this case; it was absolutely painless. It’s a topic that up until the last few years wasn’t really discussed; and it still remains quite a sensitive subject amongst most women, unless they’re discussing the latest column in the magazines about which celebrity is getting what. It is, however, a problem that affects most women at some stage throughout their lifetime… […]
Petit Lady Interview Petit Lady Action II, Erbium Laser for Vaginal Rejuvenation June 16, 2015 - TRISH: We’re here today at the Non Surgical Symposium for 2015 and I’m talking to Catherine Biedermann who’s from Advanced Cosmeceuticals. We’re going to be talking about the Petit Lady Action II. Now Catherine, can you tell us a little bit about this new release Erbium laser? CATHERINE: The Action II Petit Lady is used for vaginal tightening, vaginal rejuvenation, vaginal incontinence and can also be used for rejuvenation of the labia. TRISH: OK, so it’s not only internal, but it’s external as well? CATHERINE: Yes, it can tighten and rejuvenate the labia. That usually happens together when you do the vaginal tightening or rejuvenation. TRISH: OK, has there been a lot of treatments done so far? What has been the feedback so far? CATHERINE: The feedback has been very, very encouraging; very positive. It is a treatment that is desired by many, many women. We kind of got a bit taken by surprise on the feedback of women wanting to know more about the treatment. There is such a big need. TRISH: Right and it’s not something we talk about freely but once you start talking to people about it I’ve found that everybody wants to know about it. […]
Vaginal Rejuvenation Vaginal Rejuvenation January 15, 2015 - Perhaps it’s a sign of the times or the technology is just getting better, but vaginal rejuvenation is definitely becoming a much more popular procedure. Just as every other part of our body ages, so does your vagina. As early as our 20’s the fat around the outer labia and around the mons pubis thins out. As time goes by, the inside of the vagina begins to stretch. Depending on how many children you have had or how close you are to menopause, blood flow to the area decreases accordingly, the pelvic floor muscles weaken and the lining of your vagina starts to thin. There are also women out there that whilst they might not have children, or even be close to menopause, are still unhappy with the appearance or functionality (tightness, sensation) of their vagina. It has also been proven by studies that if a woman is unhappy with the appearance of her vagina then her sexual self-esteem can be affected when it comes to bedroom playtime. There are a number of ways that you can work to keep your vagina “young” and fit on your own, such as kegel (pelvic floor muscle strengthening) exercises. But today we are […]
