Dr Alexander Phoon is a fully qualified Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. As a fourth generation surgeon of Eurasian background, the essence of excellent surgical care, attention to detail and sound communication skills were imparted upon him from a very early age. Being born and raised in Sydney into such a medical family provided a never ending source of inspiration and there were few surprises when he chose to pursue a career in plastic surgery.
When I was growing up, I was inspired by my father’s commitment to his patients. They were much more than patients to him. He treated them all as if they were part of his own family. That deep commitment to his patients underpins the basis of that special relationship that exists between a patient and their treating doctor.
He commenced his medical training at the University of New South Wales almost 20 years ago but it was a placement in the infamous Baragwanath Hospital (Johannesburg, South Africa) that finally cemented his decision to become a plastic surgeon. Amid all this confronting trauma and reconstructive work, I had finally found my calling
