Dr Rahma Targett getting amazing results with Factor 4

Well, it’s official – Factor 4 is loved by practitioners and patients for skin rejuvenation, treatment of hair loss and a range of other uses. The next generation in PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Factor4 uses an advanced and unique process to provide patients with up to four times more growth factors than any other comparable blood rich injection product on the market. We chatted with Dr Rahma Targett, from Advanced Cosmetic Medicine in Adelaide, to take a look at this amazing treatment and the power of your blood, and Dr Targett also shared some amazing before and after photos showing the awesome results she’s been having especially with the hair loss treatment.

Trish: Hello listeners, I’m here today with Dr. Rahma Targett and Dr Targett is a cosmetic physician. She’s based at Advanced Cosmetic Medicine which is Melbourne Street, North Adelaide which is really close to my heart because it’s my home town. So welcome Dr. Targett.

Dr. Targett: Oh, hi Trish, it’s a pleasure to be talking to you today.

Trish: Oh, so nice to talk to you and I’m so glad we’ve finally got online ’cause we had a few little hiccups to start with. So today, we’re gonna talk about the Factor 4 which is a treatment that you offer and as far as I understand, it’s something that you really, really enjoy doing, you love. So, tell me, what is it about the Factor 4, why do you love it?

Dr. Targett: Well, I love it because it works. And it’s natural, it’s your own blood products, it’s nothing artificial, there is no chemical in it. And everyone seems to be suitable to have it, except for a few cases, which I’m going to talk about later.

Trish: Alright. And so, that’s what you love about. I guess that’s probably the same as what the patients love about it, isn’t it? What’s been their feedback?

Dr. Targett: Yes, they love it, because they see it’s effective and of course, it’s natural, like I said. It’s suitable for any skin type, one to six. You know? It makes the skin a lot younger, more youthful. It get rids of superficial wrinkles, it decreases pores, it improves acne, rosacea, melasma, all sorts of skin conditions that you can think of, really.

Trish: So, it’s almost like well, it’s a multipurpose treatment by the sounds of it.

Dr. Targett: It is, it is. It’s quite an amazing, innovative treatment that came recently, in the last few years.

Trish: So you can basically use it to treat rosacea?

Dr. Targett: Yes.

Trish: Fine lines and wrinkles?

Dr. Targett: Yes.

Trish: And what about the skin surface, ’cause what I’ve seen, I’ve seen-

Dr. Targett: Yeah, it decreases pores of the skin and it tightens the skin as well. And it, of course, it increases the collagen and it just rejuvenates the whole skin and makes it look a lot fresher, younger, and like I said, more youthful.

Trish: Yep. So I’ve been wanting this treatment for ages, I can’t wait, ’cause I’ve heard it does amazing things to the pores. So tell us, can you talk us through the treatment or procedure so a patient knows what to expect. So we rock up.

Dr. Targett: Yes, you rock up and I’ll have a comprehensive history, of course. So I’ll assess you like any other patient that comes for a treatment, take your medical history, look at what’s your concern, assess your skin. We’ll discuss through the procedure, so that’s taking the bloods. I’ll be asking about chronic conditions or any chronic inflammations or autoimmune conditions that the client may have. And we’ll discuss how much blood will I take, the process of after the blood has been taken that we have to incubate the blood and then after incubation of six to nine hours, it will filter it, we will put it in a … sorry Trish it’s just …

Trish: That’s okay.

Dr. Targett: Yeah, so we incubate it and then we get it spin up for 30 minutes and then we will filter it to get rid of all the impurities of the blood and then we can actually freeze it. So basically, we only take the blood once, compared to other modalities of blood products that’s available in the market. Not every time they come in, so that’s a convenience.

Trish: Yeah. So basically, I could come in, get my blood taken, you guys do what you gotta do and I could come back a couple of weeks later if I wanted to and actually start having the treatment done, is that right?

Dr. Targett: Yes, that’s right.

Trish: Okay.

Dr. Targett: So basically, for skin rejuvenation, you can have it weekly. For hair rejuvenation or the hair loss treatment, we do it two to four weeks apart.

Trish: Four weeks apart, is it?

Dr. Targett: Two to four weeks. But, ideally two weeks apart.

Trish: Okay. And so how long would a treatment take? Say for example for face rejuvenation. So I come back and then you lie me down, is there any numbing cream necessary? How is it actually put on the skin?

Dr. Targett: Definitely. Definitely. So you come, I’ll advise, 20 minutes before the procedure, my assistant will put the numbing cream, you lie there, have a relax time and then I’ll do the procedure, take around 20, 30 minutes.

Trish: Okay. And pain? Does it hurt?

Dr. Targett: Well, it depends. Everyone has got their own pain level, but I use combination of a spray, topical creams. We call it BLT so really, most clients scale it from two out of 10, sort of a pain. Yeah, everyone has got their own definition of pain level, I guess. Everyone says different scale of pain after the procedure. Some say it’s painless.

Trish: Yeah, I’ve heard that before, too. But tell me, will you notice a difference after one treatment or do you need to have a series of treatment to notice the first difference?

Dr. Targett: Yeah, well, one treatment, I think I’ve got only few clients who noticed that the pores have decreased after one treatment. But I wouldn’t say one treatment, I would also say two to three at least.

Trish: Yeah, okay. Well, it’s really funny because I’ve had a few treatments and you kind of look at your skin, you think, “Oh, well, it looks the same,” and then you look at the photo that was done before and you’re like, “Oh my God, it looks so different.”

Dr. Targett: Of course, yes.

Trish: So tell me, we were talking before about which patients that’s suitable for, but tell me who it wouldn’t be suitable for.
Dr. Targett: Okay. So anyone that is undergoing, let’s say, cancer treatment, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I wouldn’t maybe advise them to have a Factor 4 or anyone that has platelet count of less than 90,000. That means they don’t have enough platelet already in their system. So we don’t touch them until we get back to their … they get better, yeah. Or anyone that has maybe keloid tendencies, let’s say very few maybe. With a microneedle, I probably would do injectable only.

Trish: Okay. So basically, someone comes in, you’ll assess what they’re good for and if they’re not. Then you’re not gonna do it, of course.

Dr. Targett: No, no. And of course, I will have to explain to them what are the potential risk for you, you’re gonna ask me later side effects and side effects, yeah, well I can … if you ask me, I can talk about it.

Trish: Sure, I will, I will. Well, I wanted to ask you first, so, how many treatments do you reckon patients need to get the best results?

Dr. Targett: Yes, ideally, for facial rejuvenation it should be at least four sessions. So one to two weeks apart and for hair-loss treatment, it’s four to six sessions, so ideally six.

Trish: All right. And only about-

Dr. Targett: Two weeks apart.

Trish: Okay. And each treatment takes about half an hour and-

Dr. Targett: Yeah, approximately.

Trish: So once they’ve had that course of treatment, surely there is a level of maintenance as well. Do they have to come back every six months or every year just to kind of juice it up a bit?

Dr. Targett: Yeah, so for hair-loss I would recommend every year. For facial rejuvenation they can come back any time, but yeah, ideally every year.

Trish: Yeah. Okay, just when it’s … I usually do all my stuff just before summer, I don’t know why but I’m just like, “Oh my God, Christmas is coming, I need to make myself look gorgeous.”

Dr. Targett: Yes, yes.

Trish: So tell me, with the treatment, I know everyone’s got different pain threshold as to how much it hurts and all that sort of thing but what about, when taking of the blood, how much do you take and does that hurt?

Dr. Targett: Look, ideally I take around 20 to 30 mils… and really, it’s like a walk in the park.

Trish: Yeah, nice. My kind of treatment.

Dr. Targett: Yeah, finding the vein can be a bit, sometimes when the vein is too thick, but I have Acuvein a special device that actually visualise the veins. So for me it’s quite easy.

Trish: Oh, I’ve seen them. So that you can just put that on there, you can just see the veins that haven’t got-

Dr. Targett: Yeah.

Trish: Oh, that’s awesome. That’s great.

Dr. Targett: Yeah, so you don’t have to find the vein. It’s there, you can see it.

Trish: Yes.

Dr. Targett: Take the blood and that’s it.

Trish: Oh, fantastic. So, tell me, is this like a lunch time procedure or is this something that you get done then you go home, you need to have some time off?

Dr. Targett: Oh, well I wouldn’t recommend it for lunch time. I would probably prefer they come at the end of the day or at least they should have down time for at least 24 to 48 hours. I don’t have down time, I think I’m okay 12 hours after the procedure. So I get it done a night, but I would say everyone’s different, so at least 48 to 72 hours maybe. Maybe maximum 72 hours and I wouldn’t recommend to wet their face or wash their face for 12 hours. And never to go out in the sun for at least 12 hours.

Trish: Oh, yeah, of course.

Dr. Targett: It’s just a risk of post-inflammatory or what they call the IH.

Trish: Yeah, so is that part of the protocol that you give the patient to follow after the procedure?

Dr. Targett: Yes.

Trish: Like so, no sun?

Dr. Targett: Yes, definitely.

Trish: Nothing on your skin for 12 hours?

Dr. Targett: They can put their own vitamin C, vitamin A, that’s okay. But not to wet it or wash it for at least 12 hours.

Trish: Oh, okay. Any other aftercare that the patient should know about?

Dr. Targett: Yeah, nobody put everything there anyway, after the treatment. They normally put vitamin A, serum, even put HA with my clients and I said that’s good enough for the next 12 hours, so don’t put anything else.

Trish: Yeah, also-

Dr. Targett: And don’t go out in the sun, yep.

Trish: So, tell me, have you had this treatment yourself?

Dr. Targett: Yes!

Trish: Excellent. And you love it, this treatment yourself?

Dr. Targett: I love it, i love it. My husband loves it too, he doesn’t want any other wrinkle injection in his face, but he had it done. I think Sean did it to him, then … Yeah, he likes the result.

Trish: I can’t wait to have it done and I actually … One of the things that I want to have a go, have it done, because I heard so many good reports, is hair-loss. Because we always think it’s a guy’s probably, but a lot of ladies have hair thinning as well, especially if they’ve lost what I’m really looking at it for. So, I’m pretty excited to give it a go.

Dr. Targett: Perfect. Yeah, give it a try. Look, it’s nothing, there’s no chemical in it, it’s all natural products. It’s very natural. It’s amazing.

Trish: Yes, sounds great.

Dr. Targett: I’ve had great results with hair-loss, with Factor 4.

Trish: Oh, fantastic.

Dr. Targett: Men and women.

Trish: And with the hair-loss patient, is that something, once again, you go and you have your six treatments then you come back probably every six months just for a bit of a top up?

Dr. Targett: Yes. I have a client, I haven’t seen him in a year and we were able to … I can show you photos if you’d like. We were able to grow his hair and I think he came back 18 months later, because he travelled so well. And it’s still quite good, he just didn’t want to go back to where it was, so I just want to keep [inaudible 00:12:46]. So, we did another top up, but it was 18 months later. Still hair didn’t go back to the way it was.

Trish: Wow, that’s so-

Dr. Targett: Yeah, it’s amazing.

Trish: That’s so good, exactly what I want. And so, have you got any before and afters you’d be happy to share with us for the that we can put on with the blog?

Dr. Targett: Yes, but is that okay if it’s Walter Mark?

Trish: Awesome.

Dr. Targett: Yeah, I just saw Walter Mark this month, so that-

Trish: Yes, that’s fine.

Dr. Targett: Okay, sure.

Trish: Well thank you. Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me, I know it’s been really hectic there you’re in. So I really appreciate you fitting us in.
