Making the decision to schedule your rhinoplasty procedure is an exciting one but there is still some preparation that will need to be done.

During your consultation, your surgeon will provide you with a number of pre and post-care instructions that will ensure a smooth recovery and great results. While you may receive some personalised recommendations from your surgeon, there are a few general tips that you can use as you prepare for your surgery.

9 Ways to Prepare for Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Quit the nicotine a month before. Nicotine is a substance that will interfere with your healing process so it’s highly recommended that you quit smoking at least a month before your procedure. If this is not something you feel you can do, speak to your surgeon about what to expect during recovery.

Stock up on your usual medications and supplements. Following your nose job, you will need to spend a substantial amount of time at home, which is why it helps to fill your prescriptions and stock up on your usual supplements ahead of time.

Certain supplements and medications will need to be cut out. There are certain supplements and medications that can cause excessive bleeding during and additional bruising after surgery so you will need to cut them out 2 weeks prior to your procedure. Examples include Vitamin E and ibuprofen but your surgeon will provide you with a more comprehensive list.

Ask as many questions as you need to about your upcoming procedure. Rhinoplasty is not a simple procedure so it’s important that you have as many details as possible before you schedule your surgery. You need to be 100% comfortable with the procedure and understand the risks involved before you go ahead. You can never ask too many questions so fire away. Buy a good quality lip balm. Many people forget that they’re going to be breathing through their mouths for a while after their surgery so it helps to have a good lip balm handy during your recovery.

Arrange transport for after your procedure. You will not be able to drive after rhinoplasty so make sure that you arrange for someone to take you home afterward.

Get someone to assist you at home. Since you will need to get as much rest as possible, arrange for a close friend or family member to stay with you for a few days after your surgery, particularly if you have children or pets that you care for. Having someone around after surgery will also ensure that you eat correctly and take all of your necessary medications.

Refrain from strenuous activities. You will not be able to do any heavy lifting for several weeks after your surgery so be sure to take care of any tasks that require strenuous movements before your surgery.

Pack practical clothing for after your surgery. Be sure to pack a shirt or blouse that has buttons on the front so that you don’t need to lift anything over your head after your surgery.
