If you look at some of the world’s most beautiful women – they all have different shaped faces – it’s not just heart shaped, round or oval shaped faces that make a woman attractive. But what most of them have in common is that they have well proportioned or symmetrical faces. Many may have even highlighted one or more of their features through surgical or non surgical means to create aesthetically pleasing contour, angle and shape. Modern day techniques using filler are able to get amazing results when it comes to contouring your face or highlighting certain features – without surgery. We chatted to RN Michelle Sellars from the SAN Clinic in Wahroonga NSW to tell us how it’s done.

Sculpted Face, without surgery

Michelle Sellars from the SAN Clinic shares her own before and after photos after having fillers.

The San Clinic – Skilled Injectors

Michelle is wife to Dr Graham Sellars, Specialist Plastic Surgeon and Past President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. She has grown the non-surgical side of the business over sixteen years and says they are getting some great results using filler to sculpt and enhance a patient’s facial features, all without ever going under the knife. “Mid-face cheek enhancement is a very popular treatment to give you a lift without surgery. It can give you those cheekbones that you wish you had been born with. Jawline contouring is also enjoying a surge in popularity as patients want a more defined shape to the lower half of their face. There are a range of products designed to treat different areas of the face. We are able to contour and shape the face to highlight the patient’s most attractive features and soften those they don’t like.”

The Sculpted Face, Without Surgery – What Fillers Can Do

Fillers can be used on almost anywhere on the face to help reduce or remove lines and wrinkles, and to create contouring including:

  • Nasolabial lines (smile lines)
  • Perioral lines (“smoker’s” lines above upper lip)
  • Oral commissures (marionette lines)
  • Lip augmentation / enhancement (enlargement)
  • Cheek augmentation / enhancement
  • Jawline contouring
  • Non-surgical brow lifting

Michelle says while fillers are extremely popular, it’s essential to ensure your practitioner knows what they’re doing. “Understanding where to inject the filler to create the contouring results desired by the patient requires a skilled and experienced practitioner. In the right hands, filler can give results resembling a conservative facelift. Of course, while filler is able to smooth out some lines and create significant contour, there does come a point where a patient may require surgery. However, we have been getting some wonderful results that allow the patient to achieve a fresher and more rejuvenated look without having to go under the knife.”

Cheek Fillers

Michelle says cheek fillers are an extremely popular procedure. “Our cheeks can help change the entire shape of the face. As we age we lose volume in our cheeks which can leave the face hollow and affect other areas of the face such as our eyes and mouth. Dermal fillers in the cheeks can add volume, definition and contour giving a much more aesthetically pleasing appearance to the patient. At our practice we try not to change a patient’s look so much, but to replace volume loss and enhance the natural features.”

Jawline Contouring

Fillers in and around the jawline are extremely popular amongst those patients who are unhappy with their profile and jaw definition. Michelle says, “We can help provide more shape to the jawline so the chin doesn’t disappear into the neck. We can create shape where there was previously none so as to create a more balanced appearance to the face. Giving shape to a jawline where it was previously lacking can change the whole appearance of a patient.”

Lip Fillers

Of course, a blog about dermal fillers wouldn’t be complete without mentioning lip fillers. Michelle says lip fillers are still one of the most popular procedures and can completely transform the patient’s appearance. “When used for enhancement or enlargement, the gel gives extra volume to the lips. This plumps up and enhances its shape. Most clients also report that the extra volume to the lip-line improves “lipstick bleeding” significantly.”
