I love catching up with Dr Steven Weiner at the Non-Surgical Symposium every year. Dr Weiner has performed more Infini treatments than any other practitioner in the world – he and his patients absolutely love this treatment, but I wanted to talk to Dr Weiner about the results he’s been getting using both the Infini and the LaseMD combined, and the fact that he has patients from all over the world travelling to see him for him to treat their acne scarring.

Trish: Hey listeners it’s Trish again from Transforming Bodies, and today I’m here with Dr. Steven Weiner. Dr. Weiner is actually heading up the Aesthetic Clinique, which is a medical clinic dedicated to cosmetic enhancements, with it’s flagship location in Redfish Village in Santa Rosa Beach Florida. Dr. Weiner’s done the most Infini procedures in the entire world. So today we’re gonna talk about the Infini and we’re also gonna talk about the LaseMD as well and as a combined modality.

So welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me again.

Dr. Weiner: Well thank you. This is about one year anniversary of our first interview.

Trish: Oh I know. I know I like doing interviews with you. So tell me, you’ve performed over a thousand Infini procedures in just under four years. So what is it that you and your patients just love about the Infini treatment?

Dr. Weiner: Well the great thing about Infini is it gets results with very little down time. They’re measurable, they’re visible on pictures, befores and afters. It can treat areas that are sometimes difficult to treat, like the jawline and the neck. We don’t have a lot of modalities that can tighten skin on the neck with very little downtime, one, two, maybe even three days. The other thing there that’s great about Infini is the way it treats acne scarring. I have patients travelling from all over the world to get treated with the Infini for acne scarring.

Trish: Okay. I know you’re presenting here on a workshop using Infini and the LaseMD combined to give even better results than just using one or the other as a stand-alone. So what is it about using the two treatments together that makes it so effective. Like how do they compliment each other.

Dr. Weiner: So the Infini has insulated needles, so it generally just pierces the skin and puts all its energy below the skin surface. So it really doesn’t do a lot for the pigmentation of the skin. So what the LaseMD does, it helps with that, it does like a superficial laser peel. It helps also with pre-cancerous lesions, and those superficial fine lines and wrinkles. Where the Infini goes more deep for the deeper wrinkles, scarring, and tightening.

Trish: Okay, so which one do you do first?

Dr. Weiner: There’s not a set way to do it. Some clinics do it one way. The way I do it is I do the Infini first, followed by the LaseMD afterwards.

Trish: Kind of makes sense that way to me, because you’re doing the needling part of it, or you know-

Dr. Weiner: I generally go from deep to more superficial with all my treatments, and that’s kind of how I do it. LaseMD adds around eight, ten minutes to the procedure.

Trish: Oh, so you might as well do them both together, hey?

Dr. Weiner: Yeah exactly.

Trish: So can I ask you, what are the main things that you use the Infini and the LaseMD combined for? So, I know you’ve already said it. So it’s pigmentation.

Dr. Weiner: Right, so if they have a lot of sun damage.

Trish: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Dr. Weiner: Their skin is thinned and they don’t have a lot of collagen. So this thickens the skin, tightens it up a little bit. Makes the skin more refreshed. Gives it a better tone, texture. Helps with pores.

Trish: Okay so if you had acne would it help for acne as well?

Dr. Weiner: Yes. It’s not as popular in the states for acne, but in Australia they’ve really used it primarily for acne as well-

Trish: Okay.

Dr. Weiner: … as a primary treatment. I like to use another one of Lutronic’s products, which is called the SPECTRA Laser. I use that a lot for acne too, and you can actually use that in combo with these other two lasers. So you can actually do three procedures too.

Trish: Okay. So depending on what the patient needs you’ll kind of come up with a protocol that you believe is going to be the best treatment for what their problem is, combining the different modalities?

Dr. Weiner: Right, it’s not cookbook. So everyone is individualised. Even the depths with the Infini and the treatment levels and how many treatments they need, it’s all variable according to the patients wants, desires, down time, et cetera

Trish: Yep. There’s no one fits all, it’s like depending on-

Dr. Weiner: Right.

Trish: Okay, and the other thing I was going to ask you is, is there a demographic of patients that the Infini, LaseMD, or the combination of treatments is targeted towards? Or, can it kind of suit everyone I guess?

Dr. Weiner: We see patients of all age groups, and all ethnicities.

Trish: That’s a hard word that one.

Dr. Weiner: Yep, it’s more than three syllables so.

Trish: Yeah.

Dr. Weiner: Because LaseMD sort of bypasses the surface of the skin, you can treat with higher energy levels, even on the darkest skin types, which are type six. LaseMD is also safe for those skin types. So, we treat for all skin types, but also for all age groups. As previously stated, you might have patients that have acne or have acne scarring and sometimes those are younger patients, and then you have your patients that are in their late twenties to mid thirties that often just want to do preventative maintenance and just tighten a little bit. And then you have your patients in your late forties early fifties that really need corrective treatments with the Infini. They need a series of three treatments. They need a more aggressive treatments.

Trish: Alright. And with this series is it something that you just have your series and then you’re done? Or should you have your series and then perhaps go back every year or two to just kind of re-dig it up a bit?

Dr. Weiner: Yeah I agree with that philosophy.

Trish: Yeah.

Dr. Weiner: The one thing that happens when you create collagen is that this collagen lasts for five to seven years, and that’s with almost anything that produces collagen. However, you continue to age. So even though the treatment can potentially, theoretically last for five to seven years, it’s not gonna last that long because you’re gonna start to age. The second you stop the procedure you’re gonna age. Unfortunately that’s what happens.

Trish: Mm-hmm (affirmative).

Dr. Weiner: So we recommend treatments every one, maybe two years you get a touch-up.

Trish: Okay. Yeah it makes sense that you can’t just do a treatment and then think it’s gonna be magic for the rest of your life. You’re gonna have to kind of keep doing a little something to keep that beautiful ness up.

Dr. Weiner: Exactly.

Trish: Yeah.

Dr. Weiner: It’s all about skin care as well.

Trish: Yeah.

Dr. Weiner: We’re gonna make your skin look beautiful, but you need to start skin care actually beforehand and continue it. It should be part of your daily routine.

Trish: I totally agree. It’s all about your skin condition before you do anything, or even after you do anything.

Dr. Weiner: Right. You’re gonna get better results if your skin is conditioned before the procedure. I always liken it to getting piano lessons. You don’t go and get piano lessons and then you don’t go home and not practise. So don’t expect us to do all these procedures and then not do anything at home.

Trish: Yeah, you’ve got to look after your own skin. There’s an onus of responsibility on the patient as well, it’s not just the practitioner hey?

Dr. Weiner: Right.

Trish: One last question. So how does the Infini, LaseMD combined treatment compare in cost for the patient, compared to like other treatments? Is there a comparable price or? And I know everyone varies, but is it over the top or cheaper than you-

Dr. Weiner: It’s right in the middle of the road. When we do a combined procedure we always discount the LaseMD, because they’re there and they’ve already gotten numb and so forth.

Trish: Okay.

Dr. Weiner: So nothing added, and it doesn’t add that much time to a procedure.

Trish: I think that was my question. Are you paying for two treatments? Although you are, but if you have them together you kind of get a bit of a discount on one?

Dr. Weiner: Obviously. Yes obviously.

Trish: Yes. Alright. And one last question, I can’t help myself. How many treatments would a patient need to see results? I know you said three, but would they see results just after one as well?

Dr. Weiner: Of course. Yes. You see results. So the Infini’s results you generally see starting around three or four weeks. The best results are gonna be at about two and a half to three months. LaseMD causes peeling, and after the peeling is complete, which is between five and seven days, that’s when you see those results.

Trish: Okay.

Dr. Weiner: With the pigmentation. With the fine lines and wrinkles it might take a little more time to see that.

Trish: Okay. So you basically have your treatment, you’ll notice a difference straight away, and then over time it just gets a little bit better?

Dr. Weiner: Exactly.

Trish: And how long between your first and second treatment do you think, if you’re having it combined?

Dr. Weiner: Well if you want to sort of rush it, and you want to get through the treatments and see results, you can do them as close together as four weeks.

Trish: Okay. That’s civilised. Yeah, once a month?

Dr. Weiner: Yes.

Trish: For three months, or you can stretch to six weeks and even eight weeks is that right?

Dr. Weiner: Yep.

Trish: Okay awesome. Well thank you so much for your time sir. That’s been really, really interesting.

Dr. Weiner: Yeah thanks for having me again.

Trish: Pleasure.

Dr. Weiner: I’ll see you next year.

Trish: Absolutely. And if you’re looking for someone who does offer the two treatments together you can drop us an email. Or even just the Infini or the LaseMD, drop us an email to info@plasticsurgeryhub.com.au. and sorry about the outside noise, but we are at a symposium. Thanks so much.
