Champion boxers. World class chefs. Global pop sensations. What do they all have in common? These people all rely on a great team, each with a critical role to play, and without them the various threads of success would begin to unravel. Same goes for plastic surgeons. Any successful plastic surgery practice relies on their team, which can consist of nurses, dermal therapists, anaesthetists, other surgeons, General Practitioners, practice managers, patient advisors, receptionists and many more members that help keep operations running smoothly and ensure clients receive the best possible outcome. Plastic surgery is a journey, and while it’s important to research and select a qualified and skilled surgeon you feel comfortable with, it is the team behind the surgeon that will help in guiding you toward your destination. With that in mind, today we’re going to take a look at some of the roles involved in running a successful plastic surgery practice – the team behind the surgeon.
Dr Patrick Briggs from WA is known for having one of the friendliest and skilled teams in the plastic surgery industry. Patients appreciate the care they are given from the receptionist to the nurses, and from Dr Briggs himself. We asked Dr Briggs why he thinks they are so successful in gaining this reputation and why each of his staff are integral to the journey of each and every patient.
“Each of us realise how important it is to have a cohesive and smooth journey for the patient from their first phone call or consult, through to their aftercare and recovery. Having the patient as our priority means we are constantly reviewing and fine tuning our processes to ensure the patient is heard, cared for and receives the best care possible. As well as employing staff with the most excellent training and skills in the industry, this focus on patient care is absolutely paramount to our clinic’s success.”
Not only do Nurses provide care for patients before, during and after plastic surgery procedures but they a good nurse can calm a patient and set the mood for the entire procedure. In Dr Briggs’ practice there are three nurses: Clinical Nurse, Injectables Nurse and Theatre Nurse. Caroline is the Clinical Nurse and has been with the practice from day dot, and is incredibly experienced in patient aftercare and healing. Laura, the Injectable Nurse, a new addition to the practice, has an immense passion for her work and produces great results from her injectable treatments.
Dermal Therapists are becoming a hugely important part of plastic surgery practices all over the country. At Dr Briggs ’practice Nurse Laura is multi skilled and also takes on the role of Dermal Therapist. Dr Briggs’ says that Laura is wonderful at being able to assess each patient’s unique needs and identify which treatments will be able to bring them the results they desire. Laura has an extremely vast knowledge of skin types and performs a number of non-surgical treatments including peels, microdermabrasion, dermapen, LED light therapy, and facials. Being a Registered Nurse Laura has learnt skills and information about skin that give her patients great results.
In this day and age receptionists are the front line warriors in many businesses. Nowhere is this more true than in the medical world. Being the first point of contact with a patient, receptionists provide a welcoming and reassuring atmosphere, comforting apprehensive patients, and lending emotional support. Kara is Dr Briggs’ receptionist and not only is she extremely good at keeping the front of house organised, she has a vibrant, caring and enthusiastic personality with a special knack for helping patients to feel relaxed and at ease.
Practice managers are responsible for the daily operations of a plastic surgery practice, from staffing and scheduling to handling patients’ complaints. As well as being the backbone to a great medical practice, these guys often do things outside their job description. Aimee is the Practice Manager at Dr Briggs’ practice and her background in Human Resources, customer service and sales, combined with her friendly nature and smile are one of the reasons why Dr Briggs’ practice runs so smoothly. Aimee is always available for their patients to ask any questions regarding absolutely anything regarding their services.
Marketing and IT
Marketing Officers today can have a tricky job competing with the never ending online stream of information. Choosing the right Marketing Officer for a medical practice is incredible important as they must have a strong ethical morale in order to make sure they are educating patients rather than misleading them. At Dr Briggs’ practice their Marketing and IT is run by Alannah. Alannah not only works to promote Dr Briggs’ work and practice, but also works side by side with patients in discussing their overall journey experience and hosting evenings for the enjoyment and education of patients.
