A recent study by Swiss Researchers has found that bariatric patients who have tummy tuck surgery to remove excess skin are more likely to keep weight off after their procedures.
The research published in the journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, shows evidence that these researchers have discovered gastric bypass surgery patients who later underwent body contouring procedures, such as the circumferential tummy tuck enjoyed greater health benefits, including being motivated to keep their weight in check.
Jess Davis from the Plastic Surgery Hub had gastric sleeve surgery when she was 18. Prior to the procedure she had lost a small amount of weight but after the gastric sleeve surgery she lost over 70kg. At the age of 20 she had a breast lift/augmentation and body lift (including tummy tuck). Jess said the tummy tuck has been one of the main reasons she has kept her weight off.
“If you gain weight you see it straight away whereas when there was excess skin there I may not have noticed. But now when I even put on a kilo I can tell straight away.” Explains Jess.
“It has really motivated me to stay fit and healthy and keep the weight off as I know how much better I look and feel about myself.”
