MonaLisa Touch

MonaLisa TouchThe Mona Lisa Touch is a new non-surgical, non-hormonal procedure that counteracts vaginal atrophy, a condition that affects almost half of all women in their lifetime. With a simple 5-minute treatment MonaLisa Touch stimulates collagen formation beneath the vaginal skin, promoting proliferation of the cells and restoration of the vaginal wall strength and blood supply.

What exactly is vaginal atrophy?

Also known as vaginal ageing, it refers to the changes to the vagina and urinary system largely due to decreasing levels of the hormone estrogen. The physical effects of vaginal atrophy include:

  • thinning and frailty in the vaginal wall
  • changes in the pH and good bacteria that protect against infections
  • burning sensation
  • irritation
  • dryness
  • itchy vagina
  • fissuring
  • vaginal laxity
  • regular vaginal pain
  • pain during sexual intercourse

More often than not these symptoms will not resolve with time and can cause emotional stress in a woman’s personal life and intimate relationships.

Key Benefits

  • Non-hormonal
  • Low risk of side effects
  • Suitable for patients of all ages
  • Five-minute procedure
  • Painless treatment
  • Achieves long lasting improvements
  • High patient satisfaction
  • More than 4000 treatments performed in Australia
  • Suitable for patients who have undergone treatment for cancer
  • Can be used in conjunction with, or independent of, hormone therapy

The technology used in the MonaLisa Touch procedure utilises two key aspects; a fractional CO2 laser that can safely deliver heat deeper into the tissue than other laser wavelengths; and a unique laser pulse technology that starts with a small ablation of surface tissue and then gradually tails off to deliver the right amount of heat to stimulate natural regeneration of tissue. Importantly, this allows the MonaLisa Touch to treat the tissue in a single pass, which makes the treatment shorter and more patient-friendly, eliminates the chances of over treatment and increases the safety for the patient.

In the weeks following treatment the vaginal tissue regains collagen, blood supply and hydration; and the strength, elasticity and health of the vaginal wall improves.

Q. How many treatments are needed?

A. Results can be felt after one treatment. It is suggested full benefits will be seen after three to four treatments, however this can be discussed with your Doctor.

Q. How long do the results last?

A. All the changes obtained with the MonaLisa Touch procedure last significantly longer than traditional treatments. As the natural ageing process continues the treatment can be repeated as desired.

Q. How long does each session last?

A. Generally each treatment would last about 5-10 minutes!

Q. Is there pain during the treatment?

There is absolutely no pain. Most patients describe the experience as a slight vibrating sensation within their vaginal skin.

Fight vaginal atrophy with MonaLisa Touch Fight The Effects Of Vaginal Atrophy with MonaLisa Touch May 31, 2017 - I want to revisit the revolutionary Mona Lisa Touch treatment that is helping thousands of women regain control. I initially wrote about the Mona Lisa Touch in August 2015 when I had the treatment myself. It’s a bit scary putting that sort of information out there for everyone, but so many women are affected by these issues at some point in their life and we’re committed to encouraging and normalising open dialogue about any service that can offer someone a better quality of life. So I thought I’d cover again how to regain control of your vaginal atrophy with MonaLisa Touch. Vaginal Atrophy – What is it? Put simply, vaginal atrophy is the natural drying and thinning of the tissues and membranes of the vagina. According to a study by the American Association of Family Physicians, more than 40% of postmenopausal women suffer from vaginal atrophy. Although commonly encountered leading up to and following menopause as a natural part of the ageing process, vaginal atrophy may also happen following pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a result of chemotherapy, or in a number of other circumstances, and is caused by changing hormone levels leading to a lack of oestrogen production. While the […]
MonaLisa Touch Incontinence, bladder leakage – we discuss the tricky subjects… December 29, 2016 - All women at some stage of their life go through menopause. It’s inevitable and the symptoms for some women can be quite significant. Some of the symptoms are transient and will pass with time. However, another set of symptoms called genito-urinary syndrome of menopause (also known as GSM or vaginal atrophy) will appear three to four years after menopause and continue to get worse with time if not treated. While menopause is the main time women will experience these symptoms, in fact this is an issue that many women can face even before they hit menopause. It is a common problem with women undergoing treatment for certain types of cancer and it can be an issue post-pregnancy when hormones are fluctuating. The good news is there is a simple and easy solution for this often embarrassing problem. MonaLisa Touch is a revolutionary new treatment that is helping women across the globe. The Medici Clinic in Berwick (part of Cosmetic Surgery for Women in Melbourne) offer the MonaLisa Touch vaginal laser treatment, and we asked them how it works and who it can help. Symptoms Of GSM (Vaginal Atrophy) Some of the symptoms MonaLisa Touch can improve are the general symptoms […]

MonaLisa Touch Menopause and The MonaLisa Touch Laser April 4, 2016 - A subject that eventually affects all women, but is spoken about rarely, is menopause. Even less spoken about is a condition that occurs around 3-4 years after menopause and affects around 50 percent of all women (and 60% of breast cancer survivors who experience induced menopause). The condition is called genito-urinary syndrome of menopause, or GSM for short (also referred to as Vaginal Atrophy). Not every woman will have physical or emotional symptoms of menopause. However, at least 60 percent will experience mild to moderate symptoms, with 20 percent of women considered to suffer severe symptoms which impact upon their quality of life. A range of symptoms can occur including mood changes, hot flushes, memory effects, sleep disturbance, bone and joint pain and changes in sexuality and libido. Some of these effects can be short term and pass with time. However, in contrast the menopause symptoms related to GSM / vaginal atrophy will continue to get worse with time and include: Vaginal Dryness and Discomfort Bladder and Urinary Symptoms Vaginal itching Vaginal laxity Loss of lubrication Pain during intercourse The lack of moisture or lubrication in this area can be very distressing and result in an itching or burning sensation […]
MonaLisa Touch MonaLisa Touch For Vaginal Regeneration November 5, 2015 - PSH: I’m here today with Matt from High Tech Laser and we’re going to talk to you about the MonaLisa Touch which is a laser treatment for vaginal regeneration. So thank you for taking the time today, Matt. Can you tell us a little bit about it? Matt: Mona Lisa Touch is a new treatment for symptoms related to vaginal atrophy – things that many women will experience in their life – more than 50% of women. It’s symptoms that are often related to menopause but not necessarily only for women going through menopause and after menopause. So the most common symptoms that we’re treating are dryness… so, vaginal dryness and that can be caused by menopause and a thinning of the vaginal wall but also women that are breast feeding after pregnancy. When they have given birth they often get vaginal dryness because of the changes in their hormones during the period of breastfeeding and that can lead to painful intercourse which is probably the other most common symptom that we’re treating. So it’s called dyspareunia – but the common term is painful intercourse. And then some other things like vaginal laxity, itchiness and burning. And then, some patients […]
MonaLisa Touch I LAUGHED SO HARD A LITTLE BIT OF PEE CAME OUT! (But Wait, Have you Tried the Mona Lisa Touch Yet?) October 27, 2015 - I think almost all of us have done it at some stage. Laughed so hard we lost control for just long enough for a little bit of pee to come out. For some of us, it is completely manageable and moments like this are cause for even more laughter. However for others, it is no laughing matter. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 37% of women and 13% of men in Australia have experienced urinary incontinence (source: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2006). There are several reasons why we lose control over our pelvic floor muscles and therefore our ability to hold our bladder closed and stop from leaking. These might include childbirth – yes, we can blame this one again for this problem too; age – our muscles lose their strength and tightness as a natural part of ageing unless we make a specific effort not to lose function (pelvic floor muscle exercises are not to be under valued!); various disorders – such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury. There are in fact various types of incontinence, some of the main ones being: Stress incontinence This is the one related to laughing too hard, or sneezing… […]
MonaLisa Touch MonaLisa Touch and Dr. Fariba Behnia-Willison September 15, 2015 - If you have been following our posts recently or you have ever visited this page before you would have heard us mention the MonaLisa Touch. And just in case you have been living under some form of a rock you may not have heard of the MonaLisa Touch. No, we are not talking about the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting; we are in fact talking about the revolutionary, non-surgical, ‘walk in and out of the procedure within 30 minutes’ treatment for vaginal rejuvenation. We introduced you to Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison in our last article on Mona Lisa Touch. She is a South Australian based gynaecologist and was one of the first doctors in Australia to use the MonaLisa Touch. She has treated well over 3,000 patients with this machine. Dr Willison explained that she came across the MonaLisa Touch when she was confronted by the case of a 35 year old woman going through menopause because of breast cancer and chemotherapy. This woman was in so much pain both physically and emotionally. Physically because of a lack of oestrogen; and emotionally because although she had a partner who was very supportive, she was unable to enjoy any intimacy due to […]
MonaLisa Touch Vaginal Atrophy? Breathe, or dance, a sigh of relief! MONA LISA TOUCH August 11, 2015 - As soon as I heard of the Mona Lisa Touch, I was certain that I was the perfect candidate – pre-menopausal and feeling a bit anxious knowing I’m about to enter the next ‘phase’ of my life. Yes, I’ll take any help I can get! And, a bonus if it’s quick, doesn’t hurt, and has some real benefits! Being an avid researcher I scoured through the promotional material, heard reviews, watched videos and learnt that most patients felt an improvement after only one treatment. This sounded good to me. You’ll be amazed to hear… it was everything it said it was, and more! After my treatment, which was quick (less than 10 minutes) and painless… I walked out of the practitioner rooms with no discomfort whatsoever. Every other time I’ve had laser, I’ve related it to pain. Definitely not in this case; it was absolutely painless. It’s a topic that up until the last few years wasn’t really discussed; and it still remains quite a sensitive subject amongst most women, unless they’re discussing the latest column in the magazines about which celebrity is getting what. It is, however, a problem that affects most women at some stage throughout their lifetime… […]
