Younger, Healthier Skin – Quick and Painless

There is any number of non-surgical treatments available in the market to assist people in achieving a younger healthier looking skin. These include skin surface treatments such as micro dermabrasion, injectables such as fillers and Botox, laser treatments such as Fraxel  and radio wave treatments like Ultherapy, Ulthera and Pelleve. Radio wave treatments have become increasingly popular in recent years due to them being quick and relatively painless.

Firstly though and in order to understand how the radio wave treatments work it is useful to have a short discussion on why skin becomes wrinkly and what skin care regimes should be implemented in order to give your face the best possible chance to have a healthy glow and for you to be as young looking as possible.

Younger looking skin depends on collagen.

You have probably all heard or read about collagen. You may have even bought collagen supplement pills or drinks on the basis of marketing claims that they will promote the production of collagen in your body. Well I am sorry to say that there is no scientific evidence to back up those claims. It is very true however that collagen is an extremely important protein for healthy skin.

Collagen and its partner keratin are the proteins that form the fibrous network that gives our skin its strength and elasticity. But unfortunately as we age, the production of collagen in our bodies reduces. The result over time is skin that becomes less able to be stretched and contorted by our daily speech and facial expressions and wrinkles are the result.

Not only does ageing result in a loss of collagen production but daily exposure to the sun, smoking, bad eating habits and the use of recreational drugs all impact significantly on collagen production. The best anti-wrinkle creams are simply good quality sun blocks so make sure that they are a key part of your daily skin care regime. And we have all seen the damaging effects that smoking has on a persons’ skin so GIVE THEM UP. Make sure that your diet is a healthy one with plenty of green vegetables and colourful fruits like tomatoes, grapefruit and watermelon and limit recreational drug use because they will put toxins into your body that will impact on the collagen that you do have as well as the future production of it.

Themage, Ulthera and Pelleve

Ulthera and Pelleve are skin treatments that are similar to Themage in that they employ high frequency radio waves but have the advantage that their application does not result in as high heat as is typical with Themage. The radio waves are directed onto the treatment area with a hand held wand that is rubbed over the skin. The emitted high frequency waves cause the collagen to become heated; this causes it to contract which in turn stimulates the body to produce more collagen. The result is that over a six month period the skin becomes tighter and firmer.

Younger Skin treatment in just 1 hour.

A treatment would typically take about 1 hour and produces temporary redness and possibly mild swelling but this goes away within a day. The treatments also do not affect the surface of the skin so you can continue to maintain your normal skin care regime.

Ulthera, Pelleve and Themage all work on different levels of collagen in the skin so you should consult with your doctor or consultant to work out which is the most appropriate technique for you.
